Britain is providing assistance to five Eastern Caribbean countries “to help them return to economic growth while managing the risks from external shocks”. The Department for International Development (DFID) Caribbean says it will work closely with Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Dominica under the new program that runs until 2020. I see all of those nations are members of the UN Decolonization Committee.

Isn't it about time they stood up to Argentinian bullying and supported the democratic wishes of the people of the Falkland Islands.

If they refuse to support the Falklands then we should tell them to get their aid elsewhere.

If push comes to shove I bet they would vote for us, what has Argentina done for them?

They can support Argentina if they want, either way I wouldn't give them aid.

“The United Kingdom is committed to the long-term development of the Caribbean”

...as a tax haven, the twat should add.

I wonder if paulcedron would care to explain the international banking arrangements of the countries listed in the article above, and this so-called commitment of the UK that he mentioned?
Or perhaps he is just shouting in the wind?

He is not “shouting” in the wind - he is, as always, “pissing” in the wind!

My concern is that several of these countries are members of the Chavista ALBA organisation and one hopes that they can now be dissuaded from continued membership.

Ralph Gonsalves, the PM of St Vincent and the Grenadines, would quite like to be president (his voting public quie like having a Queen though) so is not likely to do any thing in favour of the UK.

I think the UK should give that country jack shit, and let their public know said monies are being put towards the costs of defending the Falklands due to his support for Argentina and disgusting comments made by their representative at the C24

Maybe Venezuela might put their hands in their pockets...

This is exactly the type of aid we need to stop. These places wanted their independence, they wanted to stand on their own as proud people, they should be left to get on with it, we have absolutely no responsibilty for them at all. Our national debt is massive, £1,254.3 billion. We cannot carry on like this.

It's about time we started playing hardball.

The UK and the People of the Falklands are in really strong positions, economically, politically and militarily.

We should now push Argentina to put up or shut up.

We should announce that all British overseas terretories are no longer under the juristiction of the C24. If any country has a problem with this they have one month to present their case to the ICJ.

This government of ours makes me laugh, they have raided the pension pots of our nurses, fireman and police, not given them a payrise for five years, yet they cannot hand it out overseas quick enough. They think that UKIP are a protest vote, they are in for a massive shock in May.

This country could do a lot of things,
but the truth is, we now use soft power,
aid , help , support , bend over backwards,

until this stops, they and others will continue to take the piss out of us,
    just my opinion.

It's not just your opinion, trust me you are not in a minority, we have had the piss taken out of us for many years and people have had enough.

    same as Spain,,,,

After Spanish provocation, Govt commissions expert to define ‘innocent passage’ at sea
    http://www.chronicle.gi/headlines_details.php?id=35032

The Government said last night that it has commissioned a legal opinion on the definition of

    innocent passage

7.30am and 8.00am practically every day there is an incursion into BGTW which could be classed as a patrol.Spanish state vessels have entered BGTW 69 times so far in November. This has included the Guardia Civil, Salvamento Maritimo, the Spanish navy, the Servicio de Vigilancia Aduanera, a Fisheries protection vessel and a survey vessel. There was a Class A incursion by the Spanish navy vessel SPS Alboran on Thursday where the vessel maintained when challenged that it was in Spanish waters. The Alboran (P62) is a 66 metre Chilreu class patrol boat.”

You are in for the shock in May....a split in the rightwing vote will see Ed Miliband in No.10 and Ed Balls in the Treasury.

Forget UKIP holding the balance of power, they are handing power to the Ed's.

I don't see it that way. Labour continually look more and more clueless. I predict a Tory win with about 6-7 UKIP MPs entering the chamber. The Lib-dems will get trounced and the Greens might pick up an extra MP possibly.

    ... just a prediction...

    @15

I think you are right, it will be a very different political map next year. Ed Milliband covering his ears when people mention immigration and not offering the British people a referendum on the EU are huge vote losers for labour.
UKIP are going to do very well in the north of England where most Labour party voters think Milliband is weird and no longer represents their values.

In any event we need to cut our foreign aid budget and stop handing out our hard earned tax payers money overseas, we need to look after our own people first.

UK currently 'gifts' 0.7% of its own GDP in foreign Aid. One of the highest contributions (% wise) in the world. Whilst a worthy and noble aim, I also feel this is no longer justifiable.
First to go must be the £20 per annum million to Argentina.

    Lets put it this way,
the more the main parties lie and deceit , the more they fxck up , the more they ignore the poor voters that put them in office, the more chance they have of losing at the next election,

as for UKIP, they are the future acorns ,
and the more the main parties ignore them , abuse and insult them , the more they call them stupid clowns , the more people will vote for them,

the main parties have been warned, and if they freely wish to ignore the people , then they deserve to see the future of British politics change in front of there very eyes,

a warning they WILL sadly ignore until it is to late..
