The second month of the year marked another negative result for auto sales in Argentina, which dropped 28% compared to February last year, showing how the sector’s downward trend appears to have no end in sight. Only 41,998 vehicles were sold last month, according to the ACARA Argentine car dealership association, the lowest figure for the month since 2009. Read full article

Yankeeboy predicted lowest car sales February since 2009 ?? Highly precise and relates directly.

Or was it more a case of yankeeboy predicted complete closure of argentinian car manufacturing SINCE 2009. highly imprecise and loosely related.

    Which might it be.
    Oh do tell.

Anyone know what standard these cars are?
Are they well made or rubbish?
    What are the prices like?
Wouldn't do for us as we drive on the correct side of the road, but surely someone could flog them off somewhere.
    Hey, malvinistas!
Your new bestest friend China drives on the same side of le road that you do.
l'm sure that they'd take them off your hands, especially at knock-down prices.
    Snigger.

I did say not to count on Autos for export revenue a couple years ago. Now that Brazil is depreciating their currency and heading into recession the auto industry in Argentina is dying.

I do think that the Auto companies will pull out if it looks like another Kthug gets in office.
There's no reason to mfg in Argentina. The internal market is too small, the workforce is lazy and stupid and the gov't is prohibiting U$ xfers back to corporate.
    Lose lose proposition

Let's see what happens next year.

But I don't see them staying.

My son-in-law has an Argentine assembled VW pickup which has proven to be excellent with no problems. Saying that however, Chileans are more inclined to buy Korean, Japanese, American, European and Chinese assembled cars and pickups. (Chile has the most open market in the world for importing cars.)
Argentines can assemble good cars, but labor costs and efficiency is putting them out of the market.

@3 Depends on the car. Some are rubbish barely better than the Chinese make, others are made to first-world standars though with some cost-cutting here and there. The problem with exporting to other markets is that:
    a) Manufacturers want to protect their European and American factories
    b) Costs are way too high to export to anywhere but Brazil and maybe other small nearby countries, though I am not sure if that is the fault of the auto unions alone. Labor is more expensive in the USA and Germany yet manufacturing costs are lower. Land transport is likely the big culprit but NOBODY is calling on that because of the Moyano mafia.

But the biggest problem is that any industry in Argentina can only sustain itself with large % of locally made components and cheap energy. Brazil didn't screw up with that, Nestor and De Vido were either stupid or didn't care. Also we really need a local automaker as any foreign one will always privilege the factories in first-world markets or China.

    nabos:
car sales in argentina have plunged because of the impuestazo the government has applied in the whole line of cars, you retards.
high end cars have increased its price +/- 100 %.
now, what the fuck has that got to do with the quality of argentine auto industry?
    nothing.

and cars are not assembled here, they are built here.

now, lets take as a little sample, the ford transit.
ford decided to stop building it in britain, mostly because of the lack of quality of local industry.
but they also chose ford argentina to fabricate it for the whole latin america.
it was the same with the ford focus, the vw amarok, the ford ranger, most of the models of chevrolet, vw, fiat, and the list goes on.

english auto industry is a bad joke.
that´s why rr, bentley, jaguar, land rover, etc belong to german, or....indian companies.
    these english are useless

Bad Gov't policy has killed many industries in Argentina. What's new?
Argentina is the only country that's been devolving for 3/4 of a Century.

In the end Auto Mfg will pull out if the new gov't looks like the old gov't
    Mark my words
    It will happen
    it just hasn't happened yet.

Soy is down 16% yoy and falling.
    Tourism is dead

@8....If the UK auto industry is such a bad joke you had better tell these companies below who all manufacture in the UK, they are just the big ones, as usual Pauline you twist your words to suit your argument, you Sir are an Arse. They might have a foreign owner/mother company, but they still are manufactured in the UK.

Nissan's factory in Sunderland built the most cars by any single British-based manufacturer, with 500,238 rolling off its production line. The other big figures were:

449,507 vehicles produced at Jaguar Land Rover's plants in Castle Bromwich, Halewood and Solihull
178,993 at the Mini site at Cowley, Oxford
172,215 by Toyota at Burnaston, Derby
    121,799 for Honda at Swindon
77,836 by Vauxhall at Ellesmere Port

Heres a little quiz for you Pauline, how many F1 teams are based in the UK, you know the F1 teams that are at the forefront of automotive engineering and innovation. Because surely no one would base themselves in a country that was considered a joke in the automotive world now, would they?

    @ 7 MagnusMaster

No chance of a local manufacturer, the motor industry has been global for decades. Auto parts are generic and it is badge engineering for a large part that keeps these companies profitable except in countries like TDC where the government screws up big time because they are really, really, stupid.

The reason automakers keep going in SA is because all the tooling is at least one generation in the past, some of the GMC platforms are FOUR generations older, so it costs peanuts to manufacture compared to western standards.

Then of course us users have to play Russian roulette with the collision strength of the vehicle which is ALWAYS far inferior to European standards. The manufacturers think they are doing you a favour putting airbags in for the front passenger!

    @ 8 POLLY

Make your mind up idiota, is it +100% or -100%, it can't be +/- FFS.

Don't show your ignorance of British manufacturing due to your tight arsed hatred of the Brits, most of what you post is bollocks.

I did not buy an argie assembled car in 2011 (even though it does have an argie assembled AMT gearbox) and I won't be buying one in 2016 because the C sector models are crap and the more prestige B models are no longer of interest to me.

The way things are going in TDC manufacturing of all kinds will be too expensive to export, even to 'brothers' like Uruguay and that, as they say, will be the end of that.

To put things into perspective, Uruguay sells about 70,000 cars PER YEAR. Last month Ford sold 77,000 of their 150 UTE (YES, in the MONTH).

Car sales are down in Argentina. So what?
The world's economy is pretty much a collection of bad news, and many countries, developed or developing, are in much worse shape than Argentina is right now. The Kirchner's governments have been much more about selling cars. They have been about redistribution of the national income with social criteria, re-industrializing the country and keeping the debt at manageable levels. At the international level, Argentina is a bad example too for resisting the traditional recipes of starving the people to pay back the debt. Even worse now that Greece and Spain may be tempted to follow the same model.

@24 Paulitta, yup we designed and made some crap cars, that is for sure. But the thing is Paulitta, what iconic cars have Argentina designed and built? The UK has designed and built some of the best cars in the world, so how can it be a joke.

Oh, you didn't answer my little quiz, 'how many F1 teams are based in the UK'. I would say zero if I was basing it on your knowledge of the automotive industry and the UK automotive industry being a joke and all that.

I have come to the decision that Pauline can't be a real Malvanista or even support Argentina, it's not possible for someone to be so wrong in every post he writes, the other Argentinians on here must be embarrassed that he represents them and their nation. He must be a troll, pro falklands but likes to pretend to be a thick Argentinian, spouting rubbish to make them look bad. No one can but that stupid all the time, can they?
