Two helicopters have collided in mid-air in northern Argentina, killing 10 people including cast members filming a French reality show, officials said. The crash happened Monday afternoon in a mountainous part of La Rioja, a scenic area popular with tourists, around 1,100 kilometres north of the capital Buenos Aires. Read full article

    Sad story

I bet they were argie pilots with no experience of this kind of work.

Usually these guys are among the very best of acrobatic helicopter pilots in the world, except in TDC.

Very sad for those who relied on them.

You can just imagine the investigation: hairy arsed argies from the local intendencia claiming 'it was nothing to do with them'. I bet the French paid through the nose to get their licences to do this work.

    not a surprise, though.

Here´s something that should raise some questions:

Why were 2 province-owned helicopters being used there? Provinces usually buy those helicopters claiming they will be used for medical support / fire fight, etc.

    5. Bribes.

I would NEVER get in an Rg helicopter. I stopped flying Aerolineas long ago because they don't maintain it.

I feel bad for those people but its the arrogance of the 1st worlders that think the 3rd world maintains equipment and knows how to use it. They always do things like we'd do here without questioning and it gets them into trouble.

    stop lying.
none of you feel bad for these people.
au contraire, you love the fact that a deadly accident has occurred in argentina.
sadly there are just 2 argies between the dead, no?

Of course we feel sorry for the next of kin, but you have to ask about the competence of the pilots, comon crashing into one another not the best of skills is it ? I wonder if they BOUGHT the pilots licences, after all it is TDC, there again the investigation will go on forever with no definitive answer.

Video show the crash: the one pilot simply flies into the other helicopter.

No doubt it will end up being the fault of one of the french passengers... but unless France gets its own investigators over there the chance of finding out the truth will be negligible.

In the meantime the available evidence smacks of pilot error.

Let's be fair. This could have happened anywhere. It would not have been reported internationally if there had not been high-profile sports stars involved.
It was an accident, that's all. It appears that the second helicopter flew underneath the leading one and clipped it. Pilot error, mechanical error ?
The enquiry will find out. Helicopters have the highest accident rate in air accidents.
I once had a “jolly” in a Bell Jetranger and did not enjoy the experience.
It felt unnatural to be held aloft by propellers whirling overhead. At least with wings you have a chance of gliding down to earth.
By a coincidence as I type, a RN Sea King SAR helicopter has flown about 100 metres from my house, no doubt on a mercy mission to pick up a medical emergency , search for a lost hillwalker or practice with the local RNLI lifeboat.
We have the busiest SAR base in the UK just 4 miles from where I stay.
These lads fly out to sea to rescue mariners from sinking or disabled vessels in weather when I would not go out the front door ! Likewise rescuing stranded climbers trapped in blizzard conditions or medivac. trips to the remoter west coast islands. It's quite humbling to think that we still can find men AND women to willingly risk their lives to help others.

    Death,

the trouble with paulie is that he sadly uses others comments to try and justify his own actions,

most here do not , will not , and never will insult the victims of these and other sad accidents,

this is a sad event , all I can say is, may they rest in peace , and the investigators find the cause for the sake of the relatives and all concerned.

I think you all will find, once the investigation is completed, that the upper helicopter lost power and fell onto the lower one. As they were at no more that 100 meters above the ground neither pilot had time to autorotate for a safe landing.

I have spent something in the region of 500 hours flying in helicopters over forest fires in Argentina and would say that Argentine helicopter pilots are as good as any in the business. There can be issues over certifiable maintenance due to lack of available spares, but in general aircraft maintenance, with some glaring exceptions, is pretty good.

I hope this helps to understand what might have happened. At a guess the loss of power could be due to bad JP1.

    Vestige,
You know full well, your tone was snide, and a tragic accident of a mid air collision of two helicopters in Argentina has no relevance whatsoever with a deliberate political terrorist act of mirdering thousands of people by slamming civilian airliners into buildings.

It was a calculated remark by YOU, to be as offensive as possible.

You have shown us all that you are a callous opportunist.

We had a helicopter lose power and crash into a pub in Glasgow with disastrous results. Over a year later they still cannot pin-point why the accident happened.
It had fuel but experienced a sudden flame-out. Both rotors had stopped indicating fuel starvation.
