Economic activity in Brazil tumbled in the first quarter and unemployment climbed to a near four-year high, adding to signals that a looming recession could worsen as President Dilma Rousseff reins in public spending. Read full article
DumbAss Dilma was proud of her reputation for being a manager when she was Chief of Staff for the chief crook, Lula.
As I said to one of my managers the real test is how good you are at spotting the pitfalls that appear without warning and avoiding them, not bragging that everything is in control when the economy is good because the politicians will soon fuck it up.
Regrettably DumbAss has shown herself to be more than up for the latter.
There's dozens of newspaper articles saying that Australia squandered the recent commodities boom and has nothing to show for it and yet if that is true........
then Brazil FECKED UP big time.
OECD just released a report showing that Australia had reduced poverty and our income inequality is one of the world's best.......
and Brazil just descended into economic, financial and political chaos.
Thank you Lula and Dilma for not being Australian.
I seriously don't think the military will step in, but Dilma may have to mobilize them sometime in the future. Despite the good news with Chinese investment, the truth is that WE ALL in Latin America are about to feel the pain of an extended decline for commodities demand. Brazil is well diversified, but it squandered its reserves and lost its investment grade bond rating. The corrupt popularism of the Worker's Party has obviously not been as destructive as the nut-case governments of Venezuela and Argentina, but still enough to ruin Brazil's immediate future that was originally predicted.
I'm afraid the Olympics will be a depressing affair, symbolizing Brazil's squander of billions of dollars while their poor suffer.
Brazil is doing exactly the opposite of what everyone recommends when you get into a recession. Probably because they did exactly the opposite of what they should have done when the economy was good.
The Gov't is making a bad situation worse.
Let me say it now since I get so much gratification out of it..

That is exactly how I expect military rule to come about.
The stupid Tupas in Uruguay couldn't think further than their noses and were amazed when the government of Uruguay gave full control of the country to the military. This being the military who had to deal with the murdering bastards after the limp wristed government aided by the people who sat on their hands to 'see what happens' couldn't get rid of the seditious illiterate and uneducated arseholes.
This is the risk that faces Dilma: IF she brings in the army and they succeed in quelling mayhem I suspect the populace (particularly the older ones) will push for full military rule. Do you think the military would turn them down in the circumstances?
The opposition in Brazil couldn't even bring themselves to impeach Dilma and I think the reason is that they are not stupid: they would inherit all of the problems caused by the PT.
I may be seeing things a bit black and white but desperate people, and it is getting there very soon, demand desperate measures.
We have the fortune of living in the two most civilized countries in South America. Unfortunately, we too have to suffer fools (aka socialists) that impede our progress.
ALthough I regret the loss of civility, I also know that the brutality and brutality of the Marxists is a far bitter fate.
I can't think of enough words/comments to celebrate. I do so hope that ordinary Brazilian people drag Dildo and Lulu out into the streets and publicly execute them. They should execute Brasiliero while they are at it. Bounce his arse up and down on a British-donated 17-inch bayonet. What other unneccesary parts could be removed?
Brazil's political opposition plans to file a criminal complaint against President Dilma Rousseff next week, accusing her of manipulating fiscal accounts in recent years to meet accounting targets.
A group of opposition parties led by the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB) will request that Brazil's General Prosecutor investigate Rousseff for allegedly breaking the law with a series of measures popularly called creative accounting.
The government has been accused of using money from state-run financial institutions to finance the Treasury and make its end-year budget targets.
Didn't someone say they were past the scandals..
:)
It's in danger of really going pear shaped, they are cutting spending in the hope to achieve a balanced budget, but while they may achieve the spending cuts the slowdown is causing huge revenue decreases for what they were planning to bring in, hence it's all set up to go very badly. If they lose investment grade then look out for the repercussions. You could put the Government down as the worst ever, Brazilians should lynch these Government idiots for such reckless stupidity. Popularism/Socialism gets you nowhere in the end....
They will lose investment grade. They will not be able to politically cut enough to make up the difference in the drastic slowdown in the economy. Remember the PBR repercussion have not really flowed into the numbers yet give it another couple of quarters to see how bad this is really going to get.
They wouldn't take high interest Chinese loans if all was well.
No, this can't be true...Brazil heading for a recession ??? But the fat D , only last October, told everybody that inflation was under control, that unemployment was going down, the price of fuel and transport would not go up, that the price of energy would not go up, that everything was under control and that Brazil has never been in such a favourable situation....d'you think she lied ?? the brasshole must be loving it - in his smelly slum...
Poor person: Dear Dilma you promised us paradise (with bolsa familia)
Dilma: Sim querido, I will give you rice and beans for your vote
Poor person: Where the fuck is your money now....
Olympics ? what a bloody joke....after the World Cup, a total failure as far as Brazil's expectations went, and they haven't learned their lesson....but on the other hand, the PT couldn't care less, as long as they skim off a fat percentage from the budget, that's all they want.
