London-based cruise company, Noble Caledonia, has announced the inclusion of Gibraltar as the turnaround port for two of its 2016 itineraries in the area. The news has been welcomed by the Rock's government which said this represented a major breakthrough achieved after years of negotiations by the cruise company’s local agent MH Bland with the support of the Gibraltar Tourist Board. Guess those tourists won't be popping over the border to spend some money in Spain..... considering the border delays.

“the extra economic benefits that would accrue from the additional presence of tourists at visitor attractions, Main Street and other retail outlets and restaurants.”
    lol
    LOL

so the “main street”, retail outlets and reestaurants, eh???
and who the fuck told this fatty monster that they are tourist “attractions”?

anyone who has been in that stinky rock covered with monkey droppings knows that the best thing you can do is to flee to sotogrande or algeciras.

    gibraltar est une merde....lol

sunshinee thinks the border delays won't happen on those days and Paul just rants yet again.

There may indeed be no border delays, however Spain's reputation will precede it and people won't risk Spanish government irrationality and will stay solely in Gibraltar. I am sure Gibraltar customs ands immigration will warn all passengers to avoid Spain and instead spend their money solely in Gibraltar.

known for and eat all that DELICIOUS SPANISH FOOD!!! IN GOOD SPANISH COMPANY!!
Stay only in Gibraltar????!!! NO WAY JOSE!!

just a question...have you ever in your life been to gibraltar?
    no?
then, why the fuck you opine?

there is no place to “spend your money” in that smelly rock.
what the whole bunch of tourist do is to run away from that cesspit as fast as they can.

now, have you ever been to algeciras or sotogrande?
    no?
have you ever in your life played polo in the santa maría polo club, golf in the real club de golf de sotogrande, surf in playa getares, etc etc etc.

how the fuck could you compare that infected puerto de gibraltar with the marvelous beaches of algeciras?

    try to travel more...benny-hillbillies

You haven't either, you pretentious faker.

It seems they think they will sell enough cruises without including Spain on that stop - besides Spain has proven itself petulant and unreliable at the border - they don't want to risk having their holidays ruined by missing the boat becuz of the Spanish border.

I can certainly recall, with much fondness, my time in Gib. I'm sure the tourists will enjoy The Rock and will realise there isn't much need to cross the border.

@4, 9. I've been to Gibraltar. Twice actually. I drove all the way through France, Spain and Portugal to get there. Main Street IS a tourist attraction and the shops are nicely varied. The only places I stopped in spain were important places during the Peninsular War. Vitoria, Burgos, Salamanca, Ciudad Rodrigo, Badajoz then over to Portugal. Head south for Seville and then Gibraltar. You can certainly always tell when you're in a spanish town. Gibraltar was so pleasant. Heading up to the top of the Rock from where you can see Africa. Take the cable car. There are no “monkey droppings” anywhere. Even in the nature reserve at the top of the Rock. But it's best not to put bags etc down as the macaques are extremely inquisitive. I also found walking down from the top of the Rock to be inadvisable. La Linea de la Concepcion is a horrible place. When I was there it only had one decent street. The one along the frontier. As soon as it turns away from the frontier it becomes something similar to what one might find in a village in northern England. And the people are very unhelpful and inconsiderate. Once I returned to spain, I lost no time in heading up the coast to get back into France as soon as possible.
    @13. Quite right.

    15 genetic aberration.
luckily they have never ever allowed you to leave the madhouse.
anyway it is a good sign that you have such imagination.
maybe in 20 years more you can leave the asylum.
    as a corpse of course.
but as they say, algo es algo.

Poor Paulie nd Aussies- Do you not realise that most cruise vessels that call into Gib Also CALL at a Spanish tourity port or two in their cruise - so on the day they call into Gibraltar there is no need to cross into Spain for a couple of hours - idiots.
And Paul - if Gib is as bad as you claim - WHY - and please answer me or shut up for the rest of your life on this - do tens of thousand of tourists visit Gibraltar every year?

“WHY - and please answer me or shut up for the rest of your life on this - do tens of thousand of tourists visit Gibraltar every year?”

    but my dear isleter1neurone...
what the fuck are “tens of thousands” (lol) of tourists compared with the 50 millions that spain receives every fucking year?
    ehhhh?

i know you are just another monoglot, but try to make an effort, read and LEARN:

“España marca un nuevo récord de turistas con 29,2 millones
Casi 30 millones de personas visitaron el país durante los seis primeros meses
La cifra supone una mejora del 4,2% con respecto al año pasado
Destacan los países asiáticos, con un aumento de más del 30% de visitantes”

#18: The number of tourists who visit Gibraltar each year is actually not “tens of thousands”, but about six million, although many are day-trippers. For our size, that means we're not doing too badly.

#17: Most of the boat visits are brief so the passengers don't really get time to cross into Spain anyway. Most are more interested in seeing Gibraltar, which is more well-known worldwide than La Linea or Algeciras.

#15: The waterfront of La Linea has been revamped an now has a marina and everything. Much nicer now and really pleasant - big improvement to the town. The rest of it is still awful though and of course you can still see the power station, oil refinery, incinerator, ship repair yard and the massive docks but hey..

#9: You obviously haven't been here either if you reckon the beach at Getares is up to much and especially that word “surf”. Algeciras is a pig-sty. Surfing? That's Tarifa, down the coast, and the 20km beaches around Valdevaqueros. Beautiful place. But Algeciras? Best thing is to drive through it while holding your nose.

try to shut the fuck up.

all those 3rd class tourists that go to the stinky rock, remain there just a pair of hours.
what the fuck can you do in that shitty place?

a port contaminated with oil, arguably the ugliest people on earth, no natural attractions...the only thing you have there are a bunch of stinky macacos.

not to mention that joke of “airport”...

    only in macacolandia...lol

Have you never thought of applying for a job as travel reporter for Lonely Planet Guides ?

Your “erudite” use of English would no doubt attract an admiring audience although you are rather repetitive and limited in your phraseology.

You deserve a wider audience for your latent talents which you have kept well hidden in these forums.

I look forward to your first book....The book of shite, stinking and farting by one who is personally conversant on this subject having a wide experience of talking it.

Yep I have been to Gibraltar. Why? Can you only comment on places you have visited? I've been to 30 countries so seems my ability to comment is higher than yours Paul.

Sorry Sunshine but Spain created the conditions and impression the border is difficult to cross. It now needs to live with the consequences.
