Uruguay says Brazil rejects idea of leaving Mercosur, but agrees that deep changes are urgent

Uruguay's foreign minister said on Friday that “nobody” supports the proposal from the Brazilian Senate president Renan Calheiros to put an end to the Mercosur customs union. However he did point out that he proposal exposed that the block effectively is 'not working' and needs to have its foundations reviewed.

US dollar in Argentina reaches its highest mark so far this year: 15.10 Pesos

Argentina's foreign exchange market was quite active on Friday and the so called 'blue' or 'parallel' dollar hit the highest mark in the year at 15.10 Pesos. Meanwhile the official US dollar ended half a cent higher at 9.255 Pesos in banks and foreign exchange agencies.

Twenty people killed overnight in Sao Paulo, in what seems rogue police vengeance

A least twenty people were killed and seven injured in a wave of Thursday/Friday overnight shootings in Brazil's biggest city, Sao Paulo, some of them gunned down in cold blood as they sat in a bar.Alexandre de Moraes, head of the Sao Paulo state security department, announced the death tally -- originally placed at 20 -- Friday after media reports of a deliberate massacre in the suburbs, possibly by rogue police.

Gibraltar to become 'turnaround' cruise port for London based Noble Caledonia

London-based cruise company, Noble Caledonia, has announced the inclusion of Gibraltar as the turnaround port for two of its 2016 itineraries in the area. The news has been welcomed by the Rock's government which said this represented a major breakthrough achieved after years of negotiations by the cruise company’s local agent MH Bland with the support of the Gibraltar Tourist Board.
