Anglo-Dutch energy giant Shell made a stride forward in its push for part of Argentina’s nascent shale oil pie after the Neuquen province government gave it the rights to exploit two unconventional oil areas in the much-coveted Vaca Muerta region for the next 35 years. Read full article

I wonder how long this agreement will last before the Argentines start screaming about sovereignty and stealing everything that Shell invested.

Shell had better keep their hands on their wallet.

Of course this is a big blow to the malvinistas and trolls who claim that oil production is great and that Argentina doesn't need anyone!

“Shell said it includes a pilot plan to study the area in order to fine-tune drilling and processing decisions.”

So Shell is going to tell the argies how to do it!

I thought that was the job ex-consultant now CEO / Chairman, whatever, of YPF was mandated to do by TMBOA. He's been looking pissed-off in every photo in the last 12 months and now his name doesn't even appear in this 'announcement'. I wonder if he has resigned? Or, better still, TMBOA has sacked him.

U$D 250M! Might as well piss in a pot for how far that will go.

US$ 250 million, that is only enougth to drill 5 conventional wells. PUTA MUERTE needs about US$ 200 BILLION to make a difference nad that was a couple of years ago, at todays price of oil one can say it would need to be treble that at US$ 600 billion. Still it can be left in the ground for future generations I suppose.

Just one more example of how business as usual keeps going in Argentina, in spite of the gloom and doom predictions that are posted not only in MP but widely published by the dominant media of Argentina.
Argentina has succeeded using counter cyclical measures that defy the received wisdom preached by dominant corporations and their allies.
That is why desperate attempts are made to derail such bad world example before the October presidential election.
