The consumer price index in Tierra del Fuego, extreme south of Argentina climbed 2.3% in August, totaling 17.4% in the first eight months and 28.4% in the last twelve months, according to the province's stats and census office.
These percentages are miles away from the official Argentine government Indec office results for August which was established at 1.2%, and 9.4% and 14.7% for eight and twelve months.
Tierra del Fuego's CPI of the year are as follows: January, 2.8%; February, 1.5%; March, 1.7%; April, 2.3%; May, 2.7%; June, 1.6%; July, 1.5% and August 2.3%. This means that the extreme south province figures are 85.4% higher than those of the official Indec for the first eight months of the year and 93% compared to a year ago.
During August Clothing and footwear was up 6.2%; Healthcare, 5.2%; Education, 3.9%; Food and beverage, 2.3%; Goods and services, 1.9%; Home equipment and upkeep, as well as Transport and communications, 1.3%, and leisure, 0.9%. Housing, drinking water and power remained unchanged mainly because they are administered prices.
As to indigence and poverty, for Tierra del Fuego the so called monthly Basic Food Basket (indigence line) (CBA) was equivalent to 1.515 Pesos (162 or 150 dollars depending of the official or blue exchange rate) and 4.678 Pesos (503 and 312 dollars) for an adult and a family respectively. This represents an increase of 186 Pesos over July; 511 Pesos more than in January and 962 Pesos compared to the same month a year ago.
Likewise the Total Basic Basket (CBT) which marks the poverty line was 5.550 Pesos (596 and 360 dollars) for an adult and 17.149 (1.843 and 1.120 dollars) for a family of four. This means 683 Pesos more than in July; 1.873 Pesos more than in January and 3.526 compared to the 13.623 of August 2014.
Both CBA and CBT experienced a monthly increase of 4.1%; 12.3% over last January and 25.9% compared to August 2014.
