Argentina' Energy company, Enarsa, in association with Venezuela's PDVSA, allegedly has detected very positive natural gas deposits off the Patagonia coast, which according to reports in the Buenos Aires press could be equivalent a third of the country's reserves. Read full article

Disclaimer & comment rulesGood for Argentina. Pity that no one will help them develop it. As for the two 'state' run companies from Argentina and Venezuela, neither of them have the money, the equipment or the experience to do more than survey.
Oct 26th, 2015 - 06:40 am - Link - Report abuse 0It's a pity for Argentina that it's own government cuts off it's nose to spite it's face. It's a pity for Argentina, that since the illegal expropriation of Repsol's shares in YPF no foreign company will invest in Argentina, no matter how much they promise to behave. Experience has taught these companies that Argentine promises are meaningless.
But on the positive side, at least Argentina doesn't have to worry about environmental problems caused by drilling, which I know is allegedly a big concern of theirs regarding the Falkland Islands, as there won't be any drilling by Argentina.
Yes, Argentina.
Oct 26th, 2015 - 11:33 am - Link - Report abuse 0Just leave it underground as we know where it is & can exploit the gas when we take over Sta Cruz Province.
This is almost laughable...could be that the PDVSA connection could go down the tubes now that la cretina and her henchmen are on their way out.
Oct 26th, 2015 - 11:35 am - Link - Report abuse 0This is just a seismic survey, many of which turn out to be unprofitable when push comes to shove.
Oct 26th, 2015 - 12:45 pm - Link - Report abuse 0As for TDC and Venezuela doing anything, that is just wishful thinking.
Could these be an enormous resevoir of hot air expelled from the sage of Chubut Snr Think?

Oct 26th, 2015 - 02:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Thats a positive sign.
Just wait for the shouts of Pirates when the Falklands companies start exploiting gas fields, which the Argies will claim are connected to their own 'discoveries'. I'm sure this announcement is just a pre-emptive ploy to 'usurp' the work of FOGL, Noble, etc!

Oct 26th, 2015 - 04:19 pm - Link - Report abuse 0They even subbed out the survey to a French company.
@7 RedBaron
A field like this may well extend into Falklands waters, failing that a platform right on the edge of the EEZ and some horizontal drilling and Bingo, a new Falklands gas field.
The platform would make an excellent early warning post, not to mention the salvage money from abandoned boats.

:-)
From Falklands Waters side , drill a hole into the field, feed a thin rope into it and then stand back and light it. byebye Argentinian coast.

Oct 26th, 2015 - 07:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It sounds amusing but unfortunately the methane needs oxygen to burn and a huge amount of methane is perfectly safe unless a gigantic rupture allows oxygen in.
Movies that show LPG, methane and liquid fuels 'blowing up' from a shell fired into them are fanciful in the extreme. Great care is always given to ensure that partly filled tanks don't have leaks on the crown for exactly this reason.
Fires DO occur but can bet put out using foam. Serious explosion risks only occur when the fire is out of control and widespread tank wall rips are caused by the plate failing.
Anybody remember the tank farm fires (and some explosions) near the M1 / M25 at Hemel Hempstead on 12th December 2005? Explosions were seen at the start but were massive gas escapes which subsequently 'lit' and surrounded by oxygen exploded.
Does this not belong to the falklanders,
Oct 26th, 2015 - 08:02 pm - Link - Report abuse 0this is only fair,
so leave it there , and the islanders will get it later...lol
@1:
Oct 27th, 2015 - 09:01 am - Link - Report abuse 0...since the illegal expropriation of Repsol's shares in YPF...
Not to mention their threat to steal the assets of oil companies doing *legal* business with the Falklands...
when Argentina collapses I'm sure plenty of 'western' companies can go in and 'mop up`.
