I'm sure France and Russia used to have a grand alliance back in the 19th and early 20th centuries - that was after Napoleon had attempted to incorporate Russia into his pan European empire. Didn't a lot of the Russian aristocracy speak French in order to set themselves apart from the common Russian man and woman?
