    Canucks worried about f & m when they can't control BSE. Keep your downers at home. And don't try to wreck the rest of the world because of your own failures.

    @5, 6

    I would be surprised if Enrique were to get the opportunity to do so.

    Enrique is in Alberta, Canada's beef country, and he is in the centre of that region. He is within 100 miles of the biggest beef feedlot and slaughterhouse of Canada.
    Alberta beef farmers are fiercely proud and protective of their industry.
    Enrique and his butcher would likely be lynched by the mob, or dragged behind a Dodge Ram pickup truck through the centre of Cochrane, should they buy or sell Argentine beef.

    Seriously, the Americans are likely to protest again that Canadian beef is unsafe and risks contamination again. The Canadian industry was hard hit when the US banned imports from Canada because of f&m and BSE.

    They won't want to risk that again - it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

    I had Argentine beef in Peru many years ago - it was wonderful. I may well have had it in Cuba - best steak I ever ate.
    However, we can easily get excellent steaks here without importing.

    I have eaten Argie beef at those quayside restaurants in BA, it was very good but I wonder what it has deteriorated to now having seen how it is now produced? These days our beef comes from a small local farm which has Dexters, its expensive but very tasty. Fed on grass in summer and silage in the winter, not a feed lot in sight. The farm produces pork, sausages and eggs and in summer and autumn, vegetables too. Everything they sell comes from within 5 miles, even curry pastes made by some local Indian sisters. I did buy a bottle of Majestic Definition Malbec from Mendoza today, so that will go nicely with a Dexter steak next saturday.

    Argentina may have a bit of a time trying to claw back lost market share.

    @7 “I had Argentine beef in Peru many years ago ”

    “Between 1988-1990, I was vice-consul in the Canadian Embassy in Lima and managed emergency consular affairs for Australia during that time”

    Any relation?

    How did you find that? It must have been difficult to find an obscure quote like that.

    I have never tried any foreign beef nor will I ever try any foreign beef.

    An Argentine trying foreign beef is like a King trying out the jester's room for a sleep... what's the point.
