Two of the 46 Chileans arrested on Monday for vandalism against a Malvinas Fallen Monument in Argentina's second largest city, Rosario, were still waiting on Tuesday for the prosecutors' charges before going before a federal judge. During the first hearing, advised by a government supplied lawyer, the Chileans abstained from making any statement while demanding to be set free. Read full article

Disclaimer & comment rulesHow sad that citizens of a nation friendly to the Falkland Islands and to the UK have taken this deplorable action. The law must be applied and they should be punished.
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 07:38 am - Link - Report abuse 0We don't need this sort of support!
Plenty of graffiti on trains and public buildings and not to mention buses in the Republic if Argentina, don't see the difference, is it because they are Chileans? One has to wonder.
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 08:57 am - Link - Report abuse 0Maybe if Argentina hadn't turned the whole Malvinas lie into such a farcical spectacle then people would give such memorials more respect.
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 09:26 am - Link - Report abuse 0Sometimes you have to earn respect and I don't think Argentina has really done that in the previous decade. It is no wonder that other South Americans treat the whole idea as a farce.
In latest reports, one of the more reasonable veterans was heard to mumble that at least they didn't empty their bowels on the floor of the local post office or leave the whole place littered with landmines like a bunch of savages...
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 09:54 am - Link - Report abuse 0That's what happens when you walk into bad company. Chileans are increasingly acting as the rude Saxons.
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 10:24 am - Link - Report abuse 0Great story; long may these continue to emerge. Great Chilean flag colours - red, white and blue, just like UK.
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 11:19 am - Link - Report abuse 0@5: It's no different to what happens when Argentines visit the Islands, really. They, the Argentine visitors, are much more rude than the Saxons, whoever they might be, which is why they aren't encouraged to visit our village.
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 12:28 pm - Link - Report abuse 0When large groups have visited, we find all manner of graffiti and signs which have to be cleaned up.
So argies get to find out how it feels that have a memorial desecrated.
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 12:50 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@7. Probably best not to allow any more argies to visit the Islands.
I can't understand why the islanders allow argentos to visit at all. Don't you have to count the silverware before they leave?
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 12:54 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Whilst no one can condone this behaviour,I won't hold my breath until they've answered about their own decorum regarding the fallen on the Island. Nor will I hold my breath until their own authorities condemn their behaviour.
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 01:12 pm - Link - Report abuse 0If this story proves one thing .
That is
In Argentina....Hypocrisy is the homage that vice pays to virtue.
@10 For Argentina, crimes are only those that others commit.
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 01:34 pm - Link - Report abuse 0ALL malvinazi propaganda monuments should be vandalized.

Hypocrites.

Feb 03rd, 2016 - 06:02 pm - Link - Report abuse 0You beat me to that, damn!
It only looks like felt tip pens scribbled over the polished granite or whatever.
Bottle of solvent and a soft rag should clean that up.
What a bunch of namby-pambies these 20 YO Malvinas Veterans are.
This is typical argie RCC behaviour.
Just think. If they hadn't invaded the Falkland Islands in the first place, or they had left when bidden by the UN, there wouldn't have had to be a monument to the fallen, which could be vandalized.

Feb 03rd, 2016 - 06:43 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@16: Glueing plaques to memorials on Mt Tumbledown, glueing plaques around the car-park at Darwin, leaving the blue and white rag pinned out on Tumbledown, waving flags in the middle of town, surreptitiously recording private conversations between Islanders at Remembrance services, leaving messages in paint and permanent marker on memorials..........
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 06:53 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Having never been here, you wouldn't know and I doubt you would believe me anyway, but all of the above have happened. Because of those kinds of carryings-on, I always fly our flag when we have tourists.
I hope this helps you understand just how discourteous some of our Argentine visitors can be, not to mention the way they behaved when they invaded. They certainly aren't British!
Well if anything it proved=
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 08:20 pm - Link - Report abuse 0not all south America supports Argentina..lol
While on principle I don't condone defacing Memorials to the dead - even if they are Argentine soldiers (who in most cases were victims of their own shitty government's decisions) - but given the not-too-friendly relations between Argentina and Chile, especially after the Beagle conflict in 1978, it is quite understandable that the Chileans would feel revolted at Argentina's obssession with the Falklands.
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 08:39 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@5 BR asshole
That's what happens when you walk into bad company..........
Speak for yourself, you moron......you keep company with the worst scum that ever walked in Brazil, a.k.a. Lula, Dilma and the 'PuTa que te pariu'...
The only 'Malvinas memorial' should be the one erected where the dead claim is buried.
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 09:14 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I would not read too much into the hinchas and their handiwork. They shit on everything wherever they go, be it at home or visiting the neighbours. I think that football hooligans is one of the nicer things to call them. Their kind are a plague in both CL and AR and they should all be fed to the fishes.
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 09:18 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I must admit to a small smirk upon reading the headline, but then my rational side awoke. I agree that any memorial, to any of the 'fallen', anywhere in the world should be treated with the utmost respect.
Feb 03rd, 2016 - 11:12 pm - Link - Report abuse 0However misguidedly, these people gave their lives for their nation.
Across the world young people have been sent to their deaths for the political beliefs of their elders, for better or worse.
We should all remember that.

¡IDIOTA!
So, what does this story have to do with Brazil? The answer is nothing so why is it appearing in the Brazilian section? The answer if the incompetence of the British government workers that run Mercopenguin.
Feb 05th, 2016 - 03:20 am - Link - Report abuse 0That incompetence is yet another reason that the UK will return the Malvinas within 25 years.

Feb 05th, 2016 - 03:59 am - Link - Report abuse 0Pray, do tell! Which 25 years are these? Are they on the Mayan Calendar, or do you own special one, that you keep in yo momma's house in the basement?
We would love to know about your 'special calendar', we just hope it it is a 'wipe-clean; version...
lol!
@26 ... so why is it appearing in the Brazilian section?
Feb 05th, 2016 - 01:41 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Not only does hepathetic hear voices, but he/she/it seems to receive a special edition where everything appears in the Brazilian section.
@26 the British government workers that run Mercopenguin
There are so many translation and writing errors in the Mercopiss articles in English, from Spanish language sources, that they could only have been rewritten by a native Spanish speaker. Just look at the errors in this article: The Chileans are fans of Universidad de Chile football team... ....rest were set free because they mainly minors. We must embrace each and all the Malvinas veterans.... Carelessly poor writing and poor translation from a native Spanish speaker.
Remember, hepathetic, Tierra del Fuego will be returned to the natives there within the next 25 months.
Well not even the British families of the fallen British soldiers will be invited to the battlle of Fromelles! in Australia. Only the FRENCH WILL HAVE THAT HONOR...

(*thanks to another poster, elsewhere on this site)
H0w many times have I been told by ANGLOS (like Skip, Philippe, Pete Bog, Chris, and all the others I didn't bother to read that support these activities), that just because EUians were colonialists, or because NorthAmoans destroyed their environment, does not mean Argies or others have to do the same behavior.
Feb 06th, 2016 - 07:07 am - Link - Report abuse 0Yet here, just because some Argies behaved incorrectly in the past or in the Falklands, then this action is justified.
Even when I only come once in couple of weeks, the first post I read imediately allows me to say...
ANGLOS WILL BE ANGLOS.
Case closed on the utter hypocrisy of these people.
A MILLION times I have been told Argentina should not act in certain ways because others did so in the past... and here they are saying British and others have the right to act a certain way because Argies have acted so in the past.
ANGLOS WILL BE ANGLOS.
@30 ..does not mean Argies or others have to do the same behavior.
Feb 06th, 2016 - 12:19 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Ah, but you haven't noticed that they are (doing the same). Or mostly worse. Whether it's murdering the indigenous, fouling their environment, or colonising the territories of the neighbours, argentos have gone out of their way to prove that they can still be more vulgar, arrogant, thieving, corrupt, inept, homicidal, deceitful, and hypocritical than the majors. To mention only a few of their finer traits.
You didn't follow the message about the argentos visiting the Falklands defacing things and behaving as badly as the drunken hinchas from Chile? That is not misbehaviour in the past as you might wish to believe but instead rather contemporary. Cognitive dissonance much?
Argies will be Argies, only worse.
