A great day for Cuba and a historical gesture on Obama's part.

The US handling of Cuba has not had any benefits for the US for decades. So finally some sense is prevailing.

At the same time, as we do wherever we go around the world, I made it clear that the United States will continue to speak up on behalf of democracy … we’ll speak out on behalf of universal human rights.
    Hey Obammy
    Saudia Arabia and Turkey??

Strategically SA and Turkey have something more to offer the USA other than an island resort as a winter that Cuba offers. I see little coming back to the American people and I don't consider business opportunities “for the American people”. The only way that trade embargo will end is if the business community pressure the GOP.

The best way to change the evil ways of any Society is for them to be able to buy and see the lifestyle of an Avg American. They will want it and do what it takes to get it or at least a little piece of it.
In a decade USA companies will own all the production and anything else of value in Cuba.
Just like we did prior to the Terrorists taking over.

Predictable and arrogant post from you.

    No you won't.
It will be joint ventures like the Spanish, Italian, Canadian, and Chinese investments.

And to have the balls to ask the USA to concede our base is beyond a pipe dream. We signed a forever lease and that base will be there long after the Castro boy's bodies have been embalmed and encased in the traditional communist fashion on display......like all the rest.....Lenin, Hi ChiMinh, Chubby Chavo, Kim's et al.

I thought that Chavez was too far gone for embalming.... he had been kept on ice for a year or so before they called in the embalmers.

He's embalmed for certain. I'm sure they used a nice resin based epoxy, comparable to the stuff I've used to repair my boats.

If you call deciding to change policy, allow American businesses to profit in Cuba, and see capitalism take hold of an Island to will never like to same in 5 years time........sure ok, the USA blinked. Fortunately for the Cuban people.

Now....for the US Congress to actually remove that old embargo !!!

What does the US have lose ?

They can lift the embargo, or keep it.

Either way, they hold all the cards. They control
    Cuba's destiny.

If the embargo stays, what can Cuba do about it that they haven't done already in the past 57 years?

I see Cuba embracing the potential change.

I see the Castro boys relieved that the frustration of their population of 11m, may be replaced by hope.

Rather than make friends with the Americans, you would have Cubans cut off their nose to spite their face. As childish as Vestige.

The carrot was dangled, and they grabbed it willingly.

“The carrot was dangled, and they grabbed it willingly.”

    Sounds childish. And hypocritical.
Also of note, the almost complete absense of criticism from Troy when ChrisR, conqueror, Briton et al engage in mind blowingly childish* commentary.

*and in ChrisRs case openly racist.

Back to the story. Congrats and good luck to the people of Cuba.

Cubans now will be working for Americans.....and they American way of life! Once the Castro's are embalmed and glass entombed........Cuba totally collapses from it's current way of life and government.

20 - Just like the British work for Americans today ?

The same Americans who sent the British paddling home in the 18th century. And dismantled the evil empire over the 19th and 20th.
