    @1 The Voice

    I actually saw this pic on another site a couple of weeks ago and I've been expecting to see pics of the swimmers in the sea taken from their support boat or getting out of the sea on the other side or putting the 250 rosaries on the graves of the fallen soldiers - but nothing.
    As it is it's just a picture of 4 people dressed up in rubber suits and standing in the sea. They've obviously not been in the sea as they are perfectly dry.
    Perhaps Think can give us a link to something more substantial.

    Dear me, Sink, the footage you linked to on YouTube doesn't really show very much at all. There was nothing reported in the press here and precious little in S. America about this monumental swim. The footage only shows the guys swimming in the sea, not swimming across the Sound. There's nothing of them making the other side. No dolphins with them and believe me there are hundreds in the Sound and they love having people to play with. No safety boat with them. Did they really swim the Sound? I have my doubts. No one saw them do it either. If they swam from San Carlos, as it says, they weren't seen by any of the land owners.
    I reckon they just did a bit of swimming and then came back to shore after a few minutes in the water, but, of course, I might be wrong. I would have thought they would have spoken to the Penguin News about their awesome feat. Wouldn't you?

    Thanks for the YouTube link Think - looks fairly like that was NOT a crossing of Falkland Sound, unless they were more than doubling their distance. That looked to me like a swim within San Carlos water. If you were making the shortest Sound crossing it would be between Fanning Head and White Rock Bay - you would be nearly tripling your distance if you went from where I think that footage was filmed.

    The video proves NOTHING. It could not be used as proof that the swim was successful. It shows some wet - suited swimmers in the sea but nothing to identify the area in which the “swim” took place. You would have to be a local to verify the landmarks. I would have thought that the swimmers would have had a map on the video showing the proposed route. The only thing that rang true was the Argentinian obsession with tooting car horns and flag waving.

    Looks to me all they did was go for a dip in protective clothing (Ah bless their little souls) them and then swam back to the same shore they set off from. More crap from the Argys

    Beautiful picture of Port Howard at the top. I didn't make it to West Falkland during my week in the Islands last year, unfortunately.

    I would imagine it was difficult for them to procure the services of a Falkland Island support boat, unless they were able to bring their own. I wouldn't want to swim in open water for that distance without one. Would be interesting to hear if they actually did complete the crossing though.

    @19 James Marshall

    If they'd've done it they'd've been bragging about it to every news service they could find.

    They made a big noise about how they were going to swim the Sound blah, blah, blah, and now they've been conspicuous by their silence. But their silence speaks volumes.

    I don't no whether they were ever serious about swimming the Falklands Sound but I guarantee the the '2 weeks' training splashing about in the sea wasn't nearly enough preparation. My thought it that they got there, realised that the Falklands Sound is very wide (not the 2 mm it shows on the map), and then sensibly called it off.

    Of course because of their macho pride they can never admit to calling it off, so they splashed about a bit in the water, took some photos, and have since kept a low profile so people don't start asking awkward questions like...what happened to the sponsorship money?

    This is the usual Argentine modus operandi. Make a big splash in the news, count all your chickens before they've hatched, then go very quiet in the hopes no one notices just how big a fool you've made of yourself when it doesn't happen.

    Just like the big splash the Argentine government made about buying aircraft from Israel, Brazil and China. All mouth and no trousers.
