In Colombia there is a serious problem of death squads killing activists, social leaders and peasants, and the FARC is asking the world (and not only the Pope) to help achieve peace. On their website www.farc-epeace.org, you can get informed about what they want so you can give a more balanced opinion about this.

FARC may be criminal scumbags and they may have an agenda, but that doesn't not change the fact they exist.
Apr 18th, 2016 - 10:52 pm - Link - Report abuse 0And the Colombian government needs to sign a peace agreement with them. Fighting them for half a century has not won the peace. Now they are all trying something different and it is slowly but surely working.
Is it perfect? Nope. But then again it never will be. That is impossible after half a century of animosity. But the current negotiations are the best chance for a lasting peace.
If someone is threatening that peace and the Catholic Church (which has a lot of influence and power still in Colombia) can help fix a problem then I am all for that.
This does not mean that the state of people are giving more power to the Church but instead harnessing its current power.
Colombia is more peaceful this year than it has been for many years. And all the detractors for the current path undertaken by Santos as opposed to Uribe can't deny that there has been some successes. Uribe nor previous presidents were able to wipe out FARC so even if these negotiations are dragged out, Colombia is still winning the peace bit by bit.
