    I cannot imagine anybody with half-a-brain buying ANY Brazil government assets unless the labour stranglehold is removed by law.

    You have a point there, but it is the way to go ; the Govt needs to get out of areas in which they've proved they are highly inneficient, and are much better served by the private sector .

    The dismantling starts.
    “The government needs to get out of areas they've proved they are highly inefficient,” notes our invaluable Jack.
    Rather, powerful corporate interests are, as usual, salivating to get their hands on captive-customer public service companies where they can make a sure buck before the country totally collapses.

    If a country can't legislate conditions, controls and restrictions on companies that have natural monopolies.... then what use are the politicians?

    It is a proven fact that governments cannot run companies as efficiently as public companies that are profit driven. A government should concentrate on using the taxation and welfare system to support those most in need as this is more targeted and efficient.

    Why should rich people who can afford it also be able to access subsidies electricity or services by government run companies?

    If you pulled your head out of your ideologically driven arse long enough you would realise that there is no perfect system but Brazil's current system is worse than most and definitely worse than countries such as Australia and Canada where the government removes itself from the market to concentrate on emolliating the effects of capitalism instead of ignoring it.

    @3 Reekie
    Your reaction is exactly the same as that of every other stupid liberal that I have ever had the displeasure of meeting.
    But since you consider yourself the voice of wisdom, please do tell us : in which areas, other than public health, public housing, public transport, security and education should the govt be in ? They have proved a disaster in just about everything else - and those areas as well - that they have laid their grubby little hands on, not to mention it is notorious that governments are not particularly efficient when handling the public's money ; As Skip rightly said above @4, “ they are not profit driven”.......produced a deficit ? stick your hand in to the public coffers....but if you think you can prove me wrong - and don't use the Scandivavian countries as an example - I'm all ears.
