Monsanto threatens to leave Argentina on a seeds' inspection dispute

The reason: the low quality of wheat being produced in Argentina. Apparently wheat imported from Uruguay is showing adequate levels of protein while Argentine wheat is not.
The Argentine mills that supply wheat flour to bakers here say they may need to import 200,000 tonnes of wheat from Uruguay.

@5. Not a lot of point in increasing the amount of land devoted to a wheat crop then, is there? Argie wheat is just a bulk filler. Is it grown from Monsanto seed? If the product is so poor, why was the K woman so keen on it? Another opportunity to find more corruption to charge her with. A bit more enrichment?
May 20th, 2016 - 12:01 pm - Link - Report abuse 0@6 From what I understand, Argentina is exporting its low-quality wheat (too low in protein to be suitable for the type of flour needed for most baking products). Argentina has to sell this low-quality wheat at quite low prices and because of that, it is sold to the US as bulk feed for animals. So not only are the Argentine growers receiving relatively low payments, the Argentine government, which previously taxed the export of this wheat, is missing one more revenue source. However, since the growers don't lose money from the taxes, they are still making better money than during the Kirchner years, and the large sales for export are creating some sources of employment in the country. Policies of the Kirchner government actually encouraged growers to use production methods that resulted in low wheat quality.

Well, Uruguay doesn't need to supply 200,000 tonnes of wheat to the shysters in argieland.
May 20th, 2016 - 07:23 pm - Link - Report abuse 0They have yet to pay for the electricity going under the Plate that Mujica rushed to 'help our brothers' when they blew up the grid system and then managed to flood it and my friend who exports to the argies always has to accept a cut to his invoice prices or he gets nothing at all.
Macri needs to stop this as a priority.
