Brazil's Rio state authorities have declared a “state of public calamity” over a major budget crisis, in order to release emergency funds to finance the Olympic Games. The decree authorizes the state to “adopt all necessary emergency measures to ration essential public services in order for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to take place”. @2. Good! I've already asked my MP to persuade members of Team GB not to go. We'd like our athletes back alive, so it makes sense not to go to Brazil. Will Brazil suffer financially? Sure it will. But who cares. The Brazilian government could have spent the years from winning the bid to now in executing any criminal captured. Cleaning up the country. Making death in prison mandatory for any corrupt politicians. Even if the sentence had to be 50 years.
