Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne has said the UK is ready to face the future “from a position of strength” and indicated there will be no immediate emergency Budget. However he admitted there would still need to be an “adjustment” in the UK economy, and it was “perfectly sensible to wait for a new prime minister” before taking any such action. Read full article

Australia and New Zealand have already been (separately this time) negotiating a trade only deal with the EU.

People can vote however they want. Seems we are covering all bases.

    Adapt or die.

@8 There is no question we will adapt and no one is going to die. The only point of debate is whether we were better off in than out. We are now leaving and nothing will change that but part of the process of accepting and uniting is to talk it through.

That is a debate left to the history books and not something that can be answered within a week of the vote. People need perspective and the 24-hour news cycle is not going to allow that.

The fact is that countries like Australia and New Zealand are already adapting to this new reality.

NZ and Oz are battling to satisfy asian demand for their stuff... good luck trying to buy a leg of lamb at a half way decent price in Unzud these days .

If Wales gets independence Oz could always try selling them lamb I guess....

@10 I absolutely don't agree with you. Now the campaigning lies are being revealed is exactly the time to debate the reality.

10 Agreed, UK needs to move quickly to secure its future. No point in crying over spilt milk and more navel gazing.

We do not leave the EU until both the EU and the UK agree the terms and that could take many years. Why are people a big deal of this.Invoking the Clause 50 at the earliest when we get a new Tory leader in October will then lead to negociations which could take 2 years or longer. I know the Markets don't like uncertainty but they have hammered the markets and we will not leave for at least another 2 years.

    Get some perspective Elaine.

“The only point of debate is whether we were better off in than out”

How can that be debated when you aren't out and don't know what being out will be like or bring?

You're too caught up in the hysteria of an event that happened about 100 hours ago. In 5 years time you might be able to have that debate on facts but at the moment all anyone has is predictions on what will ACTUALLY happen.

@15 No one is hysterical. And apart from you, everyone wants to talk about it. If anything, talking it through has the opposite effect of hysteria. You don't have to join in if you don't want to.

Shares had a good day yesterday.
National Grid have never been as high. Unilever, Glaxo and Imperial Brands also doing very well.
One major worry appears to be Banks with Deutsche Bank in serious trouble.

“we should only do that when there is a clear view about what new arrangements we are seeking with our European neighbors.”

Article is all about doing exactly that. Delays are fudging the issue in the hope that somehow everything can go back to June 22nd. Ain't goin' to happen Marty.

Note that Obama has now said the UK can move to the front of the queue alongside the EU in trade negotiations? He still wants to try and get signatures on TTIP before he leaves.
