Brazil's lower house of Congress elected an ally of interim President Michel Temer as its new speaker late on Wednesday, marking a victory for a government racing to approve unpopular economic reforms. Rodrigo Maia of the right-leaning Democrats party, known as DEM, won the second round ballot by a wide margin in a hotly contested election. Read full article

    The Government should simply confiscate every cent in the PT's bank accounts ...pretty sure that 100% of it came from corruption.....leave the bastards without a cent, and if the party wants money, let it take donations from those individuals who still believe their lies.

    The problem is that neither Temper nor Maia have any legitimacy at all. So, the so called “reforms” will fail.

    @3 Hippie
    Your statement is hippielarious....
    They both occupy the posts they do in full obedience to the Brazilian Constitution , as well as the Internal Rregulations of the Lower House of Congress...

    What's your next idiotic remark going to be ?

    The interesting thing is that, since Fiona's impeachment, the polls have stopped. Likewise the demonstrations against corruption - even though the Temer administration and the PMDB are trying to shutdown the investigations.

    Polls have not stopped - just shows how badly informed you are. Perhaps the PT has stopped taking polls because they are afraid to confirm their worst suspicions - a lot of people who once supported them, no longer do. Latest poll : while Lula still remains a political force to be reckoned with - on account of the stupid, ignorant portion of the population - if he runs for President in 2018, presuming he's not imprisoned before that, he would lose in the 2nd round to all of the other three possible candidates.

    As to the “Lava Jato” investigation, besides Temer repeatedly stating he will not allow undue external interference, it has grown to the extent it has a life of its own..... what will be shut down, will be the politicians who are found to be tampering with the investigations, and trying to destroy evidence.

    So, where have all the polls gone: https://theintercept.com/2016/07/19/brazils-largest-newspaper-commits-major-journalistic-fr OKaud-to-boost-interim-president-temer/

    And to remind us of the protests past here is the picture of the privileged rich protesting their oppression by the poor: https://theintercept.com/2016/07/19/brazils-largest-newspaper-commits-major-journalistic-fr

    “So, where have all the polls gone: ...”
    Why don't you look for them ? if you watched the news on Brazilian TV, you might know.

    At to the photo you posted, under caption of “privileged rich”, it has appeared here before (in MP), and really doesn't mean anything, OR, it can mean whatever whatever you want it to : It could be two adults strolling with their dog, passing a nanny pushing two small kids in a pram ; it could be that the adults are the kids' parents and have employed a nanny to look after them....so, if the implication is to be that only the “privileged rich” can hire a nanny, then it stands that to hire a nanny, is expensive, and thus she must be fairly well-paid....at least for her simple responsibilities, which don't require a Master's degree....either way, one thing is clear, and which your small socialist mind conveniently ignores - if the nanny does work for the couple walking ahead, she has a job and is getting a salary plus benefits.....so why do you think working as a nanny is demeaning ? and what's to stop her from doing something else ? But then the question would be : “does she have the qualification or the brains to do something else ??”
    Out of curiousity's sake, are you really concerned with the nanny, and others like her (maybe yourself ? ), or are you just one of these 'politically correct' , liberal numbnuts ?

    You should realize that photos don't always mean what meets the eye, but you can't see this, can you ?
