Aquatic athletes competing in the forthcoming Rio Olympics Games have been advised to keep their mouths shut while competing because they will “literally be swimming in human crap” and could pick up heavy duty illnesses from the contaminated water. Read full article

I don't know, if only someone like the Victorians, hell even the Romans, could come along and invent basic sanitation. Had the Brazilians just been given a few months notice of the Olympics they could have sorted this.

There is a difference between a “sewage/drainage system” and effective sewage treatment. And a lack of decent sewage treatment is still very much a feature of a lot of Letrine America. I know of one splendid 5-star hotel in Chile that is directly adjacent to an outfall of raw sewage from a nearby village. And it wasn't that long ago that over 30 percent of the discharges into the Mapocho River in Santiago were untreated.

Rio - you stand a good chance of being mugged raped or killed. You can be infected by mosquitos carrying a virus that could stunt your unborn child, and if you go for a swim you will be surrounded by turds.

The only light on the horizon is Miss Bum Bum! A refreshing change from steroid pumped Russians.
