It's not exactly like Israel didn't owe Britain a little payback.

“The British Mandate for Palestine….was a League of Nations mandate for the territory that had formerly constituted the Ottoman Empire …formally confirmed by the Council of the League of Nations on 24 July 1922,…”
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Mandate_for_Palestine_(legal_instrument)
Begin was a member of Irgun which operated contrary to the accepted legal norms of war. “The Irgun has been viewed as a terrorist organization or organization which carried out terrorist acts. Specifically the organization ”committed acts of terrorism and assassination against the British, whom it regarded as illegal occupiers,“
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Mandate_for_Palestine_(legal_instrument)
Consequently their members who were found guilty of murder by the British were hung. So its difficult to discern how you can justify ”It's not exactly like Israel didn't owe Britain a little payback.” As they were the legal authority attempting to prevent a civil war between Arabs and Jews.

It's interesting because the junta were paranoiac anti-Semites who believed they were the victims of a jewish world-conspiracy. Jacobo Timerman and other victims of the junta give accounts of how they were tortured to give imaginary details of jewish communist plots. It looks as if the junta thought they could somehow buy “the jews” onto their side and Israel thought that jews who didn't go to Israel weren't real jews and didn't matter.

Little or nothing at all, as the writer has missed the real point about former terrorist Begin. Which was his best friend, and fellow terrorist was hung by the British, which explains his hatred towards the them. Converte gladium tuum in locum suum. Why is this news? Because they've released new archives?
I've read about this in books many years ago.

The lrgun & the Stern Gang were murdering terrorists.
Even the other Jewish secret organisation, the Haganah, regarded them so.
The lrgun even volunteered to fight for Hitler.
How would that have gone down with European Jews?
While British & Commonwealth forces were desperately battling the Germans in North Africa, the lrgun & the Stern gang were murdering British AND Jewish people in Palestine.
lf the German Army had won at El Alamein, they would have surged into Palestine bringing the SS & Gestapo with them.
That may have been retribution for the lrgun & the Stern.
    Ungrateful whelps.

I've spent a few nights in the King David and if you know where to look you can still see the scars.

The Israelis have little use for the Brits and generally view them only as interlopers in a millenia old struggle.

Their perspective is of course is one of survival and not that of an oversea adventurist.

I think also that the majority of “BRITS” have very little use for the Israelis either and would not trust them in any important matter.

As long as we are not involved, they can declare war on Iran and sort each other out. As long as there is money to be made, they will be at the head of the queue.
They would sell their Granny for a shekel.

“View them only as interlopers in a millenia old struggle.” That is exactly the opinion of Israel's neighbours towards them. Ironic as the British could at least point to the legitimacy of their administration. If it is ever wrested from them by force, they will have no cause for complaint will they. As they have impoverished the Palestinians, who were among the best educated people in the region.

    lol.

If the Israelis lose control they'll have their throats slit.

To that end I doubt that they're very concerned about any commentary that you have already or could in the future proffer on the topic of legitimacy.

You miss completely the salient point which, is to show the absurdity of your opinion. But thats what happens your bias is applied to the actual historical facts.

    14. Clueless as usual.

You've already clearly established that you have absolutely no comprehension whatsoever of the on the ground dynamics of Israel and its adjoiners.

You've previously demonstrated your illiteracy and lack of education.

So you have neither theoretical nor practical knowledge of international politics.

In short, your ignorance cripples you.

So your totally unable to refute the veracity of my historical summary, so it stands as correct. Like all sore losers you attempt to move the goal-posts and bedazzle with your unsubstantiated opinions. But you're not getting-off that easily, as your narrative doesn't reveal any supported critique of international politics. You are simply revealed as a bone-head with an anglophobic bias.
Whatever it is that is eating you, it must be suffering horribly.

@11. Who are these “palestinians”. Researching history, I find no trace of anyone by that name prior to the latter half of the 20th century. Get it clear. One way or another, Israel has existed in that part of the world for more than 3,000 years. And its people have suffered discrimination, persecution and death for 2,000 years.

The closest connection I have been able to find to your “palestinians” are the Philistines. A tiny state that thought it could successfully wage war against and annihilate Israel. Surely you recall the story of David and Goliath? We owe it to the people of Israel not to let the Philistines win!

I did no such thing, otherwise you would be able to indicate where. I have simply pointed out what Begin's attitude was to the British and why, within the the accepted norms of international law post WII.
Supported by appropriate citations, while your position relies solely on your subjective speculations and argumentum ad hominems. So whatever I may be it's preferable to the prejudiced ignorance you display.

While it is true that Jews have an unbinding attachment to the area, it is also true that it was based solely on aggressions against the peoples who where already settled there. “According to the Book of Joshua, the Battle of Jericho was the first battle of the Israelites in their conquest of Canaan. …the Hebrew Bible tell how Noah cursed Canaan to become a slave, and how God gave the land of the Canaanites to Abraham and his descendants.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Jericho When God's on your side I guess you can do no wrong.

Whatever support I supplement my assertions with, has nothing to do with pandering to your conceited view of yourself. It is to provide proof absolute as to my point of view, and conversely show you as utterly wrong. Which has been a completely successful strategy so far.

Backfired though. Quite a few Daggers splashed by Harriers (an aircraft that failed to sell in South America as it was regarded as a 'toy') and other means so I guess that didn't help them sell many more. You backed a loser that took in Nazis after WW2. Idiots, you supplied Argentina. But the punch line is that we won. Begin=loser.
