Brazil's suspended president, Dilma Rousseff, took the stand on Monday at her impeachment trial in the Senate, delivering a last-ditch defense to prevent her final removal from office. “Don’t expect from me the obliging silence of cowards,” Ms. Rousseff, 68, said in a withering attack on her opponents at the start of her testimony. Well, whatever she claims the impeachment to be, if she loses the vote she will be out.

Up to her supporters, if she has any.

“Rousseff...has not been accused of illegally enriching herself, in contrast to a wild array of legislators seeking her ouster.”

That pretty well sums up the issue at stake.

Don't intend to hash this all over again, but will mention just one “small” episode, in which Dilma was an essential and willing participant : the purchase of the Pasadena oil refinery by Petrobras, while she was Minister of Mines and Energy (to which PB was subordinate) and the president of PB's Administrative Council ....she signed the purchase contract for USD 1.3 billion, when the refinery wasn't worth more than USD 300 million, a value confirmed by a recent evaluation, not to mention Nestor Cerveró's testimony (in his plea bargain). When an internal auditor of Petrobras, who participated in all the “negotiations”, later testified that when he had had the nerve to point out that the purchase of the refinery was an extremely bad “investment”, he was told to shut up and 'pretend' it was a good deal......so, it is impossible to believe that someone in her position was not aware of all the monkey-business (an 'over-price' of 'only' USD 1 billion), and to presume that IF she did, she didn't personally benefit from it, is being naive...
So, while she has not been accused of “illegally enriching herself” - yet - the day will come...or do you think that the Lava-Jato investigation has disclosed all its findings ? There's a lot more to come.

It has now become public that there was a backstage agreement the day before the final vote, between the PT leaders, the President of the Senate (Renan Calheiros) and the President of the Supreme Court who was presiding over the session (Lewandowsky), to ignore the very explicit article in the Constitution (Nº 52) whereby the loss of political rights is an an inseparable consequence of being impeached ....they agreed to apply dubious Ordinary law,
totally ignoring the fact that the Constitution is the highest law in the country.
But I'm sure that those who voted against the fat cow, will question the Supreme Court...as a matter of fact, two judges of the Court have already said that the decision to separate the final vote in to two , thus permitting the cow to retain her political rights, is unconstitutional...as if giving a strong hint that if the question is put before the Court, they will vote against the fat cow.
Meanwhile, the fat cow has appealed to the Supreme Court, to reinstate her as President.....“Stupidity knoweth no limits”.

    Continuing my # 6 :
When the PT voted 'en masse' to impeach Collor, they they didn't think that impeachment was a coup, did they ? it's only a coup now, because it has turned around and bitten them in the arse.
By Dilma's last words before going home , “we will fiercely oppose the Temer government, bla-bla-bla”, one can imagine that the PT will resort to the same type of opposition they practised before they got in to power. They will oppose every project, regardless of whether it is in the people's interest, just to screw Temer ....and in the bargain, Brazil. Just like they did when they voted against the 1988 Constitution, and when they voted against the “Plano Real” (the project that curbed Brazil's rampant inflation in 1994). But if anything that is passed by Congress turns out to be a success, they will claim responsibility for it....just like Dilma did with the “Plano Real” back in 2014.
It's the liberal 'way', claiming responsibility for everything that works, and distancing themselves from the things that go wrong......which unfortunately works in countries where there are so many idiots.
