Mercosur insists in trade negotiations with EU despite Brazil and Venezuela situations
Negotiations for a trade and cooperation agreement between Mercosur and the European Union must continue and should not be overshadowed by political issues such as the impeachment process in Brazil, pointed out Paraguay's foreign minister Eladio Loizaga, following a motion by 15 Green Euro and United Left parliamentarians in Strasbourg to cancel discussions because of the “corruption contaminated” removal of Dilma Rousseff. I was told by my Escribana when I arrived in UYU that 'we work to the ten years rule, we take ten years to think if we should do it, ten years to get the enabling legislation and ten years to implement it'. I think there is a lot of truth in that!

Any sort of agreement will only be a back and forth trading of advantages for politically-favored groups and industries that will profit the politicians and their favorites at the expense of the public. There's no need of trade agreements -- the need is for reduction (or elimination) of tariffs and trade restrictions so that people can buy what they want, where they want, and at the best price they can find.
