“What I mean is that we want to sit at a negotiations table and discuss the Islands' sovereignty with Great Britain, as has been mandated repeatedly by United Nations”.

Err - been done. Talked for 17 years. As for the UN, it hasn't said anything since 1988 - 28 years.

“Speaking to a local Buenos Aires radio station, the Senator who says his roots go back to one of the officers on the United Provinces administration of the Falklands/Malvinas Islands in the early XIXth century, ..”

Err, would that be the Pinedo who was court-martialed for refusing to fight in 1833?

“ so that we don't affect our negotiation position in the dispute...”

Err, I thought sovereignty was “non-negotiable”?

So hard to keep up with Argies

Before he opens his big mouth he should revise the Arana Southern Treaty of 1850 which tacitly recognises British sovereignty of the Falkland Islands.

Aaaaaaand where is the bit where he offers to talk to the Falkland Islands Government as well? Anyway... he will only have to wait for Hepathetic's mysteriously ongoing twenty five years and England will give them back... BWAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA (I just knew I couldn't keep a straight face on that one)

The UN has mandated nothing with regard to the Falklands. The UN merely acknowledges that there is a dispute between the UK and Argentina. Argentine needs to realise that the DC24 is not the UN. It is a non executive sub committee of the 4th Committee of the UNGA. Its ToRs state that it provides draft texts for proposed resolutions. None of its proposals have been formally adopted in over 34 years.

Not only that, but its sneaky viveza criolla attempt to limit the right of self-determination in cases of territorial dispute was roundly rejected by the GA in 2008, and every year since.

The issue can be resolved “en un dos por tres” - just acknowledge that your claim to sovereignty of the Falkland Islands is a a series of lies, myths, fairy stories and false interpretations of historical events!

Somebody enlighten me - has the UN ever said in any UNGA or SC Resolution that the UK must discuss sovereignty with Argentina? - If I remember correctly they all say something like “ with a view to finding a peaceful solution” or at least something along those lines.

I have yet to see any confirmation from recent declarations that there will be any discussions between the United Kingdom and Argentina concerning the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands.

Can someone enlighten me? Why is Argentina so positive?

They are trying to con and hoodwink us all,

but will they run rings around our clever politicians and negotiators,
    or will we not,
just an honest opinion, considering how brilliant and clever these argies tell us they are...lol

As to air links, “the UK accepted the previous Argentine administration position, which was more flights but as long as they accept more in and out flights from the continent, and this was finally accepted”

    What's that supposed to mean???????

UN General Assembly Resolutions are only 'advisory' darragh - they can be ignored, and are, more often than not.

Indeed. Not that any GA resolution has ever supported Argentina's position no matter how many times they try to pretend they do.

The only binding resolution regarding the Falkland Islands what made in 1982 when the UNSC issued resolution 502 which basically told the Argentines to removed themselves from the Falkland Islands.

When they refused to do so, the British kindly (and acting within International Law...unlike Argentina) gave them a helping boot up their respective backsides.

Argentina it seems, still lives in the past, despite a new leader.
