“Many Chileans are regularly contracted to work in the Falklands and some have definitively married and established in the Islands, making it one of the main communities. Chilean national festivities are celebrated in the Falklands and Spanish is the second language.”

What could be more natural than for a SA country to have close, mutually beneficial ties and a shared community with Islands just off its coast?

Shared Antarctic interests and soon, oil and other energy resources to develop together. A natural combination.

    Well done Chile!!

Good heavens! A South American nation talking to, and benefiting from, the Falkland Islanders... surely not? Perhaps a different SA nation, geographically closer to the Falklands could learn a valuable lesson from this?

Indeed, I always say that Buenos Aires should send a fact finding delegation to Port Stanley in order to learn how to run a country.

Chilean Government: “We're behind you all the way Argentine amigos, and support your claim, but if you don't mind we won't be as stupid as you and make some money out of the Islands and learn from them.” And for the people of Chile, getting benefits from working in the Islands while Argentina loses out, it's keep the Islands British and stuff you, Argies! And how ironic, as previous South American settlers in the Islands have spread their culture and Spanish to bring that multinational culture the Argentine robots tell you doesn't exist. And become Islanders themselves rather than cut off their nose to spite their face.

Poor old arglands. If your idea of Argentine pulchritude is the likes of CFK, Malcorra and Bertone I can only say that you have lots of taste and all of it bad.
