A Royal Air Force Hercules was photographed at the Porto Alegre international airport in August last year when it called allegedly for refueling, en route to the Falkland/Malvinas islands, according to the Rio Grande do Sul main daily Zero Hora. The photo from Centeno Mendes, was published following Argentina's official concern to Brasilia regarding 18 RAF calls in Brazilian airports, in the last two years. Read full article

We do call in to see our pals in Brazil from time to time, and there is regular contact exercises and training between our respective militaries? We helped with the Rio Olympics quite a bit too? What's wrong with that? Are the RGs trying to run South America?

Dear Argentina- A C130 flying to the Falklands from Ascension has no need to refuel enroute-and they check the weather first.. It might have to divert if sudden bad weather close to the Islands made it have to abort landing here - and lots of airports in Uruguay or Brazil much closer than Porto Allegre as emergency diversions - so most likely this was a totally separate flight from UK- to Brazil and nothing to do with the Falklands.
Brazil and UK Military do after all communicate with each other and meet up at times!

Argentina - do please grow up a wee bit.

The good thing is that never ever will there be a British RAF polluting an argentine airport, or an HMS contaminating an argentine port. Argentina is forbidden to the UK military and will forever be so.

Why on earth does such a big country like Argentina (44 million people) need to continually bully a small nation like the Falklands (3000 people)? Do they have no self-respect?

What about British Airways scheduled flights from London to Bs As? And, worse, actually carrying fare paying Argentine passengers! ¡Qué horror!

I don't like it, but BA aren't carrying weapons that could attack Argentina, at least officially though who knows with the two-faced British of course.

The UK is disintegrating so I'm sure this whole issue will resolve shortly when the UK military will be too busy flying “around home” trying to do England's bidding to hold on to to the other members, instead of flying around places it has no reason of flying around in.

Damned shame those C-130s weren't sporting a Bofors 40 mm gun on the side a la “Puff the Magic Dragon,” but hey, maybe next time Chopper sees one, they will...if only briefly. ;)

The airbridge to the Falklands is served by A330 under Airtanker. The Hercules hasn't routinely flown to the Falklands since 1985 when MPA opened.

    Troll boy
“Why are you in Brazil then? I've asked before.”

I don't know as I am not privy to arrangements between the sovereign country of Brazil and the UK.

, “but what f- business do you have there.”
As an Argentine citizen you have no say in the matter so mind your own business.

The Brazilians will make their own decisions without any interference from their puppy neighbour.

Being a Sovereign State requires a great deal more than mere declaration of intent.
A few hundred years of continuous democracy is a good start.

That criteria would exclude almost all current countries I fear. Being able to to defend your own borders is a more usual prerequisite, and being recognised as such by other sovereign states is also seen as important.

Austro, why on earth would the UK want to attack Argentina, we already have a foothold in Antartica and it is called The FALKLAND ISLANDS and well prepared to repel further military invasions by Argentina. Anyway, do you know how many BA flights have stopped over in the FALKLANDS and offloaded catapults and peashooters? Because that is what is required to repel the next assault by Argentina on the FALKLANDS.

    Demon Tree is correct.
The essential criteria does indeed exclude many current poseur or supplicant groups of people.
These people should be awarded a number of points on the way to full Sovereignty.
Nobody,or no state,to the very limited extent that any of them are states,,gets ten out of ten.
The U.K. gets nine due to its treatment of the Irish question.
Ireland was the only country that England ever invaded,by the way.
The rest are more or less a reforming or fractionating rabble.
These cadet states have no voice,no message, and no consistency or coherence.
France,Spain Northern Italy and Germany are the predominating influences in Europe.
Britain is there to keep the peace and balance the opposing forces.
Students of history will know that it has always been thus.
The U.K. needs to keep a discrete political distance from Europe, whilst trading freely with both it,The Commonwealth, and any other group of people that it chooses.
Europe must learn and accept that the price of not being slaves under the thousand year Reich is that they will be correctly and fairly governed,in principle and in extremis, from a field near Milton Keynes or,slightly preferably,Athlone.

Getting your knickers in a twist, 'southern ape' ? Exactly...the question stands : “why would the UK military want to go to Argentina ?” what reason would they have ?

And what does the fact that I live in Brazil have anything to do with it ? what have you asked me before ?? what d'you want to know ? Go ahead, ask...

I think by 'you' he meant the RAF or RN, or Britain generally, not you personally. English only has one word for 'you', unfortunately.

Think you're right. So, to answer his question ”then why are 'you' (RAF or RN) in Brazil, all I have to say is that Brazil and the UK get on well, and, it is none of Argentina's bloody business...
