British trade minister Liam Fox has urged ministers from more than 30 Commonwealth countries to resist “seductive” trade protectionism on Thursday, eyeing the network of mostly former colonies as a way to boost post-Brexit trade. Read full article
Oh sure, but not as embarrassing as the President of the United States whining about how those powerhouses Mexico and Latvia are totally taking advantage of the world's only superpower. His inauguration speech would make you believe the whole US was Detroit; he even quoted a Batman villain! Do you Americans really believe your country is such a disaster as your new President claims?
Pretty rich words from a country that is reneging all it's funding obligations, and is closing the borders to all immigrants to call others on protectionism.
Oh, its the UK government. What else is new... move along now.
@AustrOllOpithecus
We haven't reneged on any obligations, and we aren't going to close the borders to all immigrants even though some idiots (xenophobes like you, actually) want to do so.
@Hepatia
Meh, it's what most of the world thinks, but keep sticking your head in the sand if you want.
And you can only past ONE link per comment, so none of yours are appearing. I wonder how many times I will have to point it out before you realise?
Seems Australia will be one of the first countries to sign a free trade agreement with the UK. Doesn't mean we will close off other trade agreements. Just remain one of the world's most open trading nations.
We're even lending trade officials to help Britain out since this expertise has been at the EU level for nearly 40 years.
And there's a good chance that Aussies will gain more open access to the UK. I'm a big fan of freedom of movement and it has been mentioned several times now.
Australia and New Zealand have complete freedom of movement and a comprehensive free trade area including joint standards. We didn't need to build a massive supra-state like the EU for it to work. It's not controversial like NAFTA (that seems to upset the simpleton Americans) nor as ineffectual as Mercosur which has parliaments and other wasteful institutions and produces nothing worthwhile.
@Skip
That will be good, a free trade deal with Australia ought to be fairly straightforward, although I hope our government does not use any borrowed Australian trade officials to negotiate it ;)
I think freedom of movement with OZ and NZ would be pretty uncontroversial here, but you might get more immigrants than expected, especially if the UK economy does badly after Brexit. Though I don't know why we don't have free movement already to be honest.
And I should have said before that I'm not anti-American, just anti-Trump and anti-idiots of all stripes.
LOL. For the 3rd time, Hepatia, you can only have ONE link per comment. Your links are as broken as your record! I wonder if I will get to 25 before she realises?
