Prime Minister Theresa May on Tuesday signed the historic letter that will launch Brexit when it is delivered to Brussels on Wednesday, a photo released by her office showed. Sitting in front of a lone Union Jack national flag and a portrait of Britain’s first prime minister, Robert Walpole, a serene-looking May signed the letter to begin the country’s departure from the European Union. Mar 29th, 2017 - 08:11 am - Link - Report abuse 0I watched Breakfast News this morning and they were interviewing a British man, living in Spain for decades, stating with a straight face that it was a good thing because of all the immigrants in the U.K..
Tis a sad day.
The hypocrisy, it burns.
Mar 29th, 2017 - 09:55 am - Link - Report abuse 0All this because the Juncker and his unelected cronies were too arrogant to give Cameron something that he could take to the British people that would persuade them to stay...
Mar 29th, 2017 - 11:39 am - Link - Report abuse +1@ DT The ignorance and arrogance of Brits abroad.
Mar 29th, 2017 - 12:58 pm - Link - Report abuse -1@ Darragh No, that is too simplistic an excuse. It was far more complex than that. You can't blame Juncker or Cameron, the blame sits squarely with every single person who voted for Brexit. Think of that with every job lost, inflation, falling pound, etc.
Slightly generalistic Elaine, I live abroad and voted to stay....in fact I know very few who voted to leave that live abroad. Was the British man living on the Costa del Sol, by any chance?
Mar 29th, 2017 - 01:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Elaine, can you post a link to that effect?

Mar 29th, 2017 - 04:47 pm - Link - Report abuse -1I would put more blame on people like Boris Johnson, who chose to campaign for Brexit because of his own ambition rather than any conviction, and promised that we could stay in the single market, and all the others who lied that we could get a better deal outside the EU.
@ JM
Mar 29th, 2017 - 05:20 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Where did I say all people living abroad voted to leave? I talked about one man who was living in Spain who had that opinion. I did not say he represented all overseas voters.
@ GC
I don't post or click links but even if I did what exactly are you requesting me to post a link to? I make comment based on my opinion. Run along and do your own research.
@ DT Yes, but I suspect they picked him thinking most people wouldn't like or agree with him. To be honest, someone had to make the case for both sides of the debate to try to inform people. They failed miserably. Ultimately the burden of responsibility lies with the people with the power to vote.
@ElaineB
Mar 30th, 2017 - 07:20 am - Link - Report abuse 0Who is 'they' who picked him? And I do blame Boris because he was a seemingly respectable politician who people trusted to know what he was talking about, and he told them they could have all the things they wanted with no downsides. Who wouldn't vote for that?
Now we know it was all a lie, and what we are getting is nothing like what was promised, but it's too late. The government are not going to give us another choice once we know the terms.
@ DT
Mar 30th, 2017 - 08:25 am - Link - Report abuse 0You don't think it was discussed in the halls of Westminster who was going to lead the Exit charge? It was. But you are right that he is a kind of Trump-light in his fame-whoring, though his is infinitely more intelligent.
Remember the 'straight banana ruling' that many Brexit voters referred to? That was made up by BoJo years ago. It never existed! I actually think it was the immigration myth that drove most people to vote to leave the EU and that was peddled by Farage. I took considerable satisfaction in TM's statement yesterday that leaving the EU will effect little change on immigration numbers, if at all. Good thing too.
@EB
Mar 30th, 2017 - 10:09 pm - Link - Report abuse 0No, I never heard anything like that. Where did you hear it?
I hadn't heard the statement about immigration. How sadly ironic if she gives the Leave voters the exact opposite of what they were promised - leaving the single market and no reduction in immigration.
Prime Minister Theresa May could have killed two birds with one stone: Withdraw from the EU and from Malvinas at the same time.
