Ex president Cristina Fernandez and her daughter Florencia Kirchner, both indicted in several alleged corruption cases have been allowed to travel to Europe in May, where the Argentine leader has been invited to a round of conferences and discussions including one from the Oxford Union at Oxford University. Apr 27th, 2017 - 03:20 pm - Link - Report abuse -5Who could say no to such a well-written & respect-filled invitation letter from a respected European University debate group...?
https://www.scribd.com/mobile/document/345749458/Universidad-de-Oxford-invitacion?skip_app_promo=true :
The letter says..., for example...:
As I repeatedly have written on these pages...:
Mme. Cristina Elisabet Fernandez de Kirchner is a brave woman in an impossible (ex)job...
THINK is happy that them young Oxfordistanis THINK likewise...
As it's not far from me I am tempted to go up there with a few rotten eggs and squashed tomatoes to give the stupid woman what she deserves. Just because she gets invited doesn't mean that she is approved of. In fact as far as Britain is concerned she is unwelcome.
Apr 27th, 2017 - 04:35 pm - Link - Report abuse +1Didn't Cristina call the Falkland Islanders ''squatters'' and doubted that they had ''rights'' ?
Apr 27th, 2017 - 04:45 pm - Link - Report abuse +1Well let's see if she's correct:
Falklands – Usurpation & UN Resolutions:

Oooops!
May be former president Cristina Fernandez' presentation in Oxford will help restore Argentina's reputation abroad, badly tarnished by the oratory skills of president Mauricio Macri, current ambassador of the Joyful Revolution.

It's always reassuring to note that there are some argentines so blindly enamored of the Kirchnerist conspicuous corruption and criminal mismanagement that made the country forever synonymous with conspicuous corruption and criminal mismanagement.
Apr 27th, 2017 - 07:44 pm - Link - Report abuse +1It'd be hilarious if she ended up sharing a bed with Assange.
Apr 27th, 2017 - 07:46 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Will she speak in the Argentine version of Spanish/Castellano? If so I trust Oxford have competent translators or otherwise nobody will understand a word she says! ¡Che!
Apr 28th, 2017 - 05:21 am - Link - Report abuse +1Will she answer questions or will it be her usual rambling monologue ?
Apr 28th, 2017 - 07:50 pm - Link - Report abuse +31. She has not been invited to speak at Oxford University, it is the Oxford Union - not the same thing
Apr 28th, 2017 - 08:52 pm - Link - Report abuse +22. There are now questions being raised about the authenticity of the invitation. Would the Oxford Union really write a letter in bad Spanish? I believe that they would usually write the letter in English and attach a translation.
For anybody with some education level, it cannot escape the fact that Cristina can speak for a whole hour and make sense. You listen to MM and after 30 seconds are nauseous. No matter your politics. Macri is capable of piling off cliches, platitudes and blatant lies with a straight face and walk away with a smile. That's why he needs only friendly audiences--with police keeping at bay dissenters and troublemakers.

They thrive on diversion, innuendo, confusion and blatant lies.

Apr 29th, 2017 - 09:12 am - Link - Report abuse +2It is NOT the same thing....check before posting easily countered inaccuracies.
The Oxford Union is an unincorporated association, holding its property in trust in favour of its objectives and members, and governed by its rules (which form a multi-partite contract between the members).
Since its foundation, it has been independent of the University: historically, this was because the Victorian University restricted junior members from discussing certain issues (for example, theology). Despite such restrictions since being lifted, it has remained entirely separate from the University, and is constitutionally bound to remain so.

Apr 29th, 2017 - 01:20 pm - Link - Report abuse +1I don't agree with you. For all I know you are right about their respective speaking abilities, but how many people outside Argentina have listened to either of them? Almost nobody. Unless things go really wrong in Argentina and there is widespread rioting or another default, people in Europe or North America aren't going to hear much about it, so their impressions of the current and former Presidents will mostly be based on their foreign policy.
And whatever Macri is doing at home, he is trying to open the country up and increase trade, which makes foreign governments more inclined to support him. Also, unlike CFK, he is willing to play by the rules, for example by paying off the vulture funds rather than fighting them, and this also creates a better impression outside Argentina.
@DT
Apr 29th, 2017 - 04:31 pm - Link - Report abuse -3...Macri is...trying to open the country up and increase trade, which makes foreign governments more inclined to support him.
Indeed, many foreign governments have to love Macri. At a time when protectionism is on the rise, the Argentine president has opened wide the country to imports, which combined with reduced domestic consumption is a lethal formula hurting big time the SMEs--which in turn hurts local employment and prompts a serious currency hemorrhage.
Yes--the world supermarket in Macri's words is now importing pork from Denmark, spinach from Belgium, carrots from Chile and large amounts of chicken from Brazil. It is also killing the domestic textile, shoe and furniture industries and the jobs that go with it.

”(Macri) is willing to play by the rules, for example by paying off the vulture funds rather than fighting them...”
There is ample consensus that includes non-partisan voices that the Macri administration has been borrowing at unprecedented levels and pace, and what's worst, to keep the lights on--not capital investment.
Now, we learn even more alarming news--something that should make shudder anyone with a stake on Argentina's survival as a country.
Argentina's borrowing for US $ 20 billion in the current year will be submitted to the jurisdiction of the NY and UK courts, in spite of the vulture precedent. However, the most alarming aspect, which has just been denounced by three constitutionalist lawyers, ist the inclusion, as guarantee, of Argentine's natural resources such as gold, silver, lithium, oil and gas.
Please realize I have included just the cold facts-my opinion may be unprintable.

Enrique, Macri inherited huge debts from the CFK government, no wonder he has to borrow so much just to keep the country going.Every country borrows money.

Apr 29th, 2017 - 08:39 pm - Link - Report abuse +2Wow, seriously? Guaranteeing the country's debts with natural resources is a terrible idea. Seems like it would at least compromise your sovereignty, and worst case scenario it could lead to war.
Your second link didn't work by the way, you can only have one link in each post.
In Brussels the former president will meet with left wing and progressive lawmakers, give a few speeches ... for give a few speeches read tell a few lies.
Apr 30th, 2017 - 01:56 am - Link - Report abuse +3Is the subject of the Conference going to be how to be a corrupt SOB and get away with it ? CFK has plenty of experience in that field, so should be interesting...
Apr 30th, 2017 - 10:08 pm - Link - Report abuse +3The invitation is right about something. CFK has never shown any fear to oppose traditional centers of power.

As Clyde15 confirmed, not only is it not the same thing it has to remain separate. So I was correct on this one.
There are no more questions about the authenticity of the invitation...
I stand corrected (something you seem to be unable to do).
If Christina does attend she may be surprised at the reception she gets since Although public figures welcome an invitation to speak at the Union, they defend their views on equal terms with any member who cares to challenge them. (Oxford Union web site). They do have a history of inviting controversial speakers, resulting in some protests and have been known to uninvite speakers if there were safety concerns. I wonder how the ex-pat Argentine community in the UK will respond if she visits?

The fact is the the Oxford Union is separate from Oxford University so they could no more invite her to speak at the University than invite her to speak on the Moon. Fact is, you have your facts wrong...again.
