With less than two weeks for the PASO compulsory primaries in Argentina, in anticipation of the October midterm elections, the ruling political party of president Mauricio Macri Let us change, is expected to come out in a better position, whether it wins or loses with the revival of Kirchnerism. As Elaine says, CFK is only trying to get a stay out of jail card. Even if she gets it, it will only be temporary until she eventually gets kicked out by her constituents for doing nothing for them. The projected improved position for Macri is a hopeful sign that people are recognising that he's stopped digging the hole that CFK dug and is starting to reverse the process. If so, it would seem that the people have more patience for this slow process than Reekie does.

Aug 04th, 2017 - 09:03 pm - Link - Report abuse +1Who would have thought we would see such headlines just 18 months after the election?
Aug 04th, 2017 - 11:31 pm - Link - Report abuse -4Indeed, if president Mauricio Macri had started delivering even a few of his campaign promises, Cristina would be forgotten by now.
Instead, voters in the Buenos Aires province have realized the tragic mistake Argentines made in October 2015 and may elect Cristina to the Senate in October.
Elaine and Zaphod have no understanding of what material Cristina Fernandez is made of.
If she were trying to avoid jail she could have stayed quietly home and would've been left alone.
As she surges in the polls, the government desperately plots how to stop her.
@ EM You are such a smitten old fool. You have no idea what CFK is made of either but I suspect she is 10% botox.
Aug 05th, 2017 - 07:36 pm - Link - Report abuse +3CFK stole from the very people you claim to support. If she was still in power Argentina would resemble Venezuela by now.

Reekie,
Aug 07th, 2017 - 06:20 pm - Link - Report abuse +2...voters in the Buenos Aires province have realized the tragic mistake Argentines made in October 2015 and may elect Cristina to the Senate in October.
A constituency that has strong support for CFK may elect her. You cannot extrapolate this to the rest of the country and, if you read the story, it looks like voters are actually realising the tragic mistake they made when they elected CFK and Macri will gain support in these elections. If so, this is actually a remarkable achievement. There tends to be a mid-term dip for most administrations so if Macri gains support then he could become unstoppable as people start to see the benefits of his reforms.
Elaine and Zaphod have no understanding of what material Cristina Fernandez is made of.
As Elaine says, 10% botox seems reasonable. I'd say that the other 90% is a mix of dishonesty, greed, venom, self-interest and general nastiness. I know Reekie thinks her bum is some sort of perfume factory too but I doubt it.
If she were trying to avoid “jail” she could have stayed quietly home and would've been left alone.
If she were trying to avoid jail she could have tried not stealing. A bit late for that now.
As she surges in the polls, the government desperately plots how to stop her.
I suspect that the government isn't that bothered with her. They can leave her to the judicial services and, irrespective of whether she wins or not, she's a spent force politically. Her support is reduced and fragmented. She doesn't get the crowds she used to. Maybe she is unwilling to spend any of her assets on more churipans? She doesn't get as much support on MercoPress any more either, you are almost a lone voice. Did she stop paying the trolls?
Elaine: CFK is only running for office to stay out of jail.
Aug 08th, 2017 - 04:06 am - Link - Report abuse -5Wow. Elaine you are soooo predictable. So superficial. You can't fathom what motivates Cristina. She is a true leader, something you will never begin to understand even if you live 150 years.
Cristina will be voted in because of what she did as president, and also because of Macri did to most Argentines in the last 19 months. Period.

Aug 08th, 2017 - 05:41 am - Link - Report abuse +3Surely you are not serious! So the Argentine electorate will vote because of what she did as president - misappropriate public funds?
@ EM
Aug 08th, 2017 - 03:58 pm - Link - Report abuse +3Do you know her personally? No, I don't think so. So why the hero worship? Why are you so blind to her corruption? Why do you not believe the evidence of the behaviour of her thugs? Your blind faith cannot be idealogical but rather of the fanatical kind.
If CFK were still in power Argentina would resemble Venezuela by now. Do you support the regime there?
Macri ... is expected to come out in “a better position”, whether it wins or loses with the revival of [CFK]

Zaphod
Aug 08th, 2017 - 07:11 pm - Link - Report abuse -5Losing relevance.
Really? Ask Mauricio M. I believe you are losing--not relevance but your grasp on reality. But then, what do you know? You don't understand Spanish.
Gordo1
Misappropriate public funds.
What do you know? Cristina hasn't been declared guilty of anything and judges and prosecutors have been looking for the smoking gun for years.
Elaine
I don't know Cristina personally. However, for now what counts is that the electors trust her.
Again, you are convicting Cristina before the time. I really have a hard time believing you are British. You are too dismissive of legal process, too hateful and insulting. You sound more like a señora gorda del barrio Norte. You know well that no prosecutor or judge has found any evidence against Cristina but you do not care--you still convict her. Perhaps you can help them. The evidence: bring it on, Elaine!
As for your last one, forgive me. Silly Question section is closed today.

Aug 09th, 2017 - 09:38 am - Link - Report abuse +2Calling a woman fat, how very typically misogynist. How is whether or not I am British is important in this debate? I have certainly spend more time in Argentina than you in the last decade and have a lot more first-hand knowledge. You, on the other hand, live in a fantasy. If you had posters of CFK on your wall I would not be surprised. I am British, I live in England, but am happy that you think I am an Argentine - why would that be an insult? I am certainly well received with a lot of good friends in Argentina and Chile. I absolutely love my time there.
A small portion of the electorate probably does support CFK. The K's were good at buying support and I am sure they would like to jump on that gravy train again.
The ONLY reason CFK is seeking reelection is to stay out of jail.
The peso here has fallen in value again, now selling for over 18 to the dollar in spite of expensive central bank intervention. The local media (like reekie) can't seem to figure out that it isn't the dollar that is changing in value, but the peso, which is of course falling. They insist that the dollar is rising. How very argento-centric. Even the foreign media are telling us that the fall of the peso is largely due to the CFK effect. Duh.
Aug 09th, 2017 - 02:15 pm - Link - Report abuse +1Let's get a count of the number of Kirchneristas either presently hiding from arrest by enjoying immunity in the congress, or attempting to do so. And a count of the KK already in jail or charged with items from their expanding galaxy of crimes. And another count, of the Canadian residents who support institutionalised crime here in Argentina.
I also do not believe that someone so devoted cannot afford to visit the country they seem obsessed with for so many years. All the time spent online cheerleading for the K's could have been spent on a little work to earn the money. It is not that expensive and I am sure someone who speaks with such 'authority', who knows the minds of so many Argentines could easily be accommodated for free by one of his comrades. I rather think he EM does not want his fantasy ruined by reality.

Unless, of course, the online agitprop is itself a paying vocation. ;)
Barely disguised disappointed comments cannot escape one simple fact: 19 months after his candidate being defeated by a small margin, Cristina Fernandez is making a big comeback to politics. It's comforting to see how electors have taken such a short time to sort through the lies and calumnies and see who's really on their side.
Aug 11th, 2017 - 04:47 am - Link - Report abuse -1As I said before: One can post whatever--it won't influence reality. All we can do is to try and interpret the ebbs and flows of politics. MP readers, including stern Elaine B, imoyaro and Marti are of those who mix wishful thinking and reality, to the point they don't know one from the other.
Others have taken prudent retreat, probably until the weather clears up.
Elaine B may claim she is British, but she's got a bad habit many of my country people still have: Once a person has been arrested, she automatically is assumed as guilty. In Britain, exception made of the trash tabloid media, a person is presumed innocent till guilt is proven in a court of law. On that bad habit, Elaine sounds more Argentine than British.
Oh well. Nobody's perfect.
Only a seasoned peroncho like reekie would mischaracterise a criminal's manueuver to avoid much-deserved arrest and jail as a big comeback to politics.

How about this for a fact: she hasn't won the election yet.
Costing the country a cool billion dollars from the Central Bank having to spend that much to offset the negative impacts of the mere Kirchner candidacy..... that could be considered a big comeback.
