In an interview with a São Paulo radio station, he said Brazil may achieve growth of 2% in 2018 if the economy continues expanding at its current pace. Read full article

Aug 09th, 2017 - 05:23 pm - Link - Report abuse 0The key words, MAY achieve....IF the economy....too many ' ifs & ands'.....but no harm in hoping.
Regarding the SELIC rate, despite a 34 % reduction over the last year, interest rates to the common man remain as high as ever......
Hi, Jack! Pl. read as follows:
Aug 10th, 2017 - 08:22 am - Link - Report abuse 0“In an interview with a São Paulo radio station, he said Brazil WILL achieve growth of 2% in 2018 WHEN the politicians:
- accept lower salaries & fewer benefits,
- give up the protection of the special privileges, etc.
- ban the corrupt = companies, politicians & political-paries,
- reduce the number of political parties,
- stop milking the country, and
- return their illegal gains to the population”

Hi, Jack!
Aug 10th, 2017 - 07:59 pm - Link - Report abuse 0At the risk of sounding prophetic [already said so - Brazil being a POTENTIAL Venezuela]:

Aug 11th, 2017 - 05:03 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I don't believe Brazil will become another VZ, and if the other way round, VZ is to follow Brazil's steps, don't think it'll happen any time soon. Despite the similarities in the economy, that of depending on the export of commodities, the similarities end there...Vz has always depended on oil, whereas Brazil's industrial base, despite the crisis, is more consolidated. This of course, does not exclude the possibility of Brazil sinking further, while Congress would rather negotiate personal gain than to get the country on track again.

China could have played the same game.
No surprise that Russia is trading with PDVSA, and giving it credit...they've always wanted a foothold in South America ; but unlike China, Russia won't be so complacent if VZ doesn't hold up its end of the bargain....

Aug 13th, 2017 - 11:41 am - Link - Report abuse 0VZ will agree to ANY clause if Russia permits Maduro to remain in power and continue with the illegal activities in which Russia would rather not involve itself DIRECTLY. Just ONE example:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegal_drug_trade_in_Venezuela
Right. Maduro's VP is the biggest drug dealer in South America....when the drug trade is legalized like that, it may well become one of Maduro's largest sources of income...

Aug 14th, 2017 - 10:52 am - Link - Report abuse 0All over the world - ALL the countries [WITHOUT exception] -
have been constantly losing the battle against all kinds of drugs. Besides; The Battle PROMOTES - encourages - corruption, crime & violence!
LEGALIZE drugs - Why Not?
Historically, they could not even win the war against booze and will NEVER win it against tobacco either! So why NOT?
@ :o))
Aug 14th, 2017 - 09:53 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Agreed. The war on drugs has been such a failure, better for governments to have that money than criminals, and use it to mitigate the harm the drugs do. Plus sending people to jail for drug offences is kind of counterproductive to the goal of making them good citizens.

Can the commerce generate funds at a rate faster than the politician's expertise - their rate of stealing it?

B: easy ....all the time.
The more riches the country generates, the more stealing will occur. Law of Brazilian nature.
