Poor Brazil. Carlos Menem would be envious of Temer, but what a carnival for the purchasers! Imagine--a customer base captive, no competition, no advertising costs. All they need is an accomplice state to charge as they want. No doubt a sample of things to come after Temer was exonerated by lawmakers of those pesky “corruption” (hey, who worries about it anymore?) charges.

Q: “who worries about it anymore?”
    A: Not even the population!

It's high time the government got rid of Eletrobras and its subsidiaries - except for Nuclebras and Itaipu, for obvious reasons - over the last 15 years, the holding company has raked up R$ 228 billion in losses....and who has to bail them out ? the taxpayer. With the privatization, or the sale of 51% (controlling power) of the company, the government will step aside and allow professionals instead of politicians to run it, which means greater efficiency and lower energy bills....which, as a matter of fact, skyrocketed after Dilma screwed around with Eletrobras in 2014....she ordered the company to reduce the tariffs by 18%, in an attempt to boosts her popularity before the elections - despite strong complaints from the specialists and the energy sector in general, that this was a purely populist move, ignoring the cost structure of the companies - only to have to increase them again, in 2015 (after the election), and by a far higher percentage than the discount.
At last a president is getting rid of the white elephants that the people have to subsidize, and which currently only serve the purpose of pleasing the politicians when their parties dispute the control of such companies, with a view to the political influence it carries.

On a serious note and considering a possibility of escaping the black-hole of the TOTAL Economic Disaster [forthcoming - undoubtedly]; Brazil should get rid of a few of the backward states which are NOTHING but a great Financial Burden to the rest of the country.

THAT, of course; besides making 100% SURE that the corrupt return their illicit gains - IMMEDIATELY - and also have NO Special Privileges of ANY KIND!!

    @JB

REF: The White Elephants: They are:
    - The State owned industries/projects
    - Twisted laws & the Law-Makers
    - Extravagant salaries, privileges & fringe benefits of the politicians & the bureaucrats.
    - Extravagant State/Federal Out-Of-Control Spending
    - Backward states
    to name a few.

There certainly is a strong possibility of the further deepening of the black-hole of the Economic Disaster! The disaster of:
    - Rising unemployment
    - The “already employed” getting paid late or not at all
    - Diminishing commercial/industrial activities
    - Negative growth in the federal income
    to name a few

Hence, Brazil should get rid of a few of the backward states which are NOTHING but a great Financial Burden to the rest of the country. These states can be either sold or rented [as colonies or countries] permanently or for 30 to 50 years - for the purpose of economic development - to the “Supposed to be MORE Serious” countries

THAT, of course; besides making 100% SURE that the corrupt return their illicit gains - IMMEDIATELY - and also have NO Special Privileges of ANY KIND!!

Getting rid of backward states is definitely a good idea...or maybe easier, the southern states plus SP, MT, MG, ES, AM should just secede from Brazil and form a new country....Rio, with the parallel criminal state, is beyond help, and the northeastern aren't worth their weight in shit...and, kicking out all politicians of northeastern origin would be the cherry on the cake.

I drew a similarity with the case of Hong Kong as regards to the treaty between China & UK [before Brexit]. I think that it is possible and practical. In fact; a part of the credit for what China is today; goes to Hong Kong. Hence, Brazil has valuable lessons to learn. Don't you think so? P. S.: Sooner or later; RJ is going to contaminate the whole country - even the armed forces are TERRIFIED to face the Crime-Syndicates in RJ and state govt is rotten to the core!

“RJ is going to contaminate the whole country...”
If we, or rather, the federal government doesn't watch out, that might become a possibility...the drug lords, with Congress' lords, will be a great combination....

REF: Drug & Congress Lords: Hoods with different specialties - the 2 sides of the SAME coin. Hence, it'd be surprising; if the National/Int'l. Combinations don't ALREADY exist. Obviously:
    - Both NEED each other - DESPERATELY!
    - Both earn $$$ with the help of the connections of each other.
    - Both protect each other.
