Long time coming since 1976, why does it take soooooo long to do or say anything in Argentina? Still not sure of the circumstances surrounding Nisman's death after how many years?

As a person that counter signed AECA declarations for technology bound for Argentina and Chile during the Carter administration I know that the US took its human rights obligations seriously. The same cannot be said of today with respect to many countries around the world.

I believe that Carter was one of the greater US presidents.

I think he's right that commitment to human rights today is low, but then compare to what was happening back in the 70s, when people were being tortured and murdered in Latin America with US support. Human rights are a *lot* more respected in Argentina today than they were then. Maybe the problem has just moved around.

It's a pity Carter was one of the few US presidents to take human rights issues seriously, and he's not well regarded in his own country. Did you continue signing those things under Reagan?

But the AECA gives the president a certain amount of discretion so Carter used an Executive Order to limit all defense consignments to Argentina. In the Reagan administration Argentina reverted to being just like any other country in this respect.

The sanctions continued on until lifted by Congress in 1983 or 84. However, these were financial and I had no contact with these.
