John Barton, Director of Natural Resources, said: “Dialogue with Argentina on the conservation of shared marine resources has the potential to allow for better management of shared fish stocks and improve sustainability of such stocks”.

Can only be good news. Better still if Argentina gives up the ridiculous claim that it owns the territorial waters around the Falklands.

Argentina will drop its claim around the same time as the UK does. What will probably happen, maybe not anytime soon, is a sort of working arrangement as in Antarctica, where claims are set aside for a lengthy period.

But, good to hear Mr Barton being so positive and enthusiastic. Hope all the fishermen are safe and well.

Sovereignty and Self Determination, is not about owning or belonging. It is about everything that goes into the making and the living of a nation. Stop trying to grab things so strongly to keep others from it, and everything will fall in its place naturally.

    @PE
“Sovereignty and Self Determination, is not about owning or belonging. It is about everything that goes into the making and the living of a nation”

    I agree.

In the Falkland Islands, it is the Islanders themselves that have made their country what it is, including the help of a lady from what now is Argentina, Antonina Roxa, who chose to remain British in 1833 (possibly because she would not have been able to have the opportunities in the United Provinces she enjoyed in the Falkland Islands).

Your statement totally justifies the Falkland Islander's existence, The only contribution the Argentines made to the Islands was in 1982, turning a a neat, well administered town like Stanley into a booby trapped shithole, where excrement had to be cleaned from the Post Office after the Argentine surrender.

In other words, the Argentine occupation of 1982 added nothing positive to 'nation building' in the Falklands, instead Argentina did it's best to destroy the Islands, with minefields, ruined buildings and the use of people's houses as latrines.

The local hospital was not built by Argentina.
    Nor the town hall.
    Nor were the churches.
    Nor were the shops.
    Nor was the water plant,.
    Nor was the power station,
    Nor were the schools.

    Need I continue ?

So in terms of nation building, Argentina has done nothing whatsoever to contribute to the country that the Falkland islands have become, unless you consider the airstrip at Hookers Point that was blown away by the wind, or the oil tanks.

Everything else in this nation building has been built by the Islanders or by help from the UK.

“Stop trying to grab things so strongly to keep others from it.”

Again you are right-Argentina should cease it's attempts to steal that which it has not contributed to, trying to keep the Islanders who built their country from having it.

Message to Argentina-concentrate on solving your own numerous problems with your disintegrating country before wanting to ruin and steal another

@Pete, your reasoning perspectives are so warped-ly illogical. There is no contextual otherwise reasons why they would make sense. ... Just say anything at all! It's all the same. Starting with you talking about Antonia Roxa as if her decisions of 1833 were drawn from assessments made about a world that would not be for another 120 years! You're funny. Actually very typical British arguing, where you start with the conclusion being sought, and then try to make your story details fit accordingly, even if it means borrowing from whatever time, or whatever place in the world.
Let me just cut to the chase. ... The islanders never built anything resembling a country or nation or any form of true self governance, nor the spirit of such endeavor was ever possessed by anyone on those islands. I would maybe go as far as calling “self administration” They have always been there in function of Great Britain.
