The principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples (Sub heading 5, para 5). The establishment of a sovereign and independent State, the free association or integration with an independent State or the emergence into any other political status freely determined by a people constitute modes of implementing the right of self-determination by that people.

The people of Gibraltar have elected to remain freely associated with the UK. Their right.

Would having an MP make Gibraltar part of the UK? Describing their government as devo-max surely implies that's the plan. I'd be curious to know what Gibraltarians think of this idea.

“The Treaty had a sting in that Gibraltar can only be British or Spanish, its own unilateral independence is not an option.”

Are they saying that an old outdated treaty trumps self determination...?
I thought that the UN said...

Learn a lesson here Bob it counts for naught what the UN preaches about... The principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples...
You rely on empty meaningless words that have no legal binding on Sovereign States...the whole principle of being a Sovereign State means that you can stick your middle finger up at the rest of the International community and their guiding rules if you so wish...
Which also probably means the UK could tell Spain to go forth and multiply with the treaty...

If Gibraltar would like an MP...start paying some of those gaming taxes to the UK..especially when most of the revenue is coming from UK gamblers, judging by those endless gambling adverts that saturate UK television...

The question is why is this piece appearing in Mercopenguin, a British government propaganda organ supposedly devoted to America, South America and the “South Atlantic”?
