May 24th, 2018 - 03:01 am - Link - Report abuse -2LATAM Airlines operates the only flight to the Falkland Islands from South America, once a week from Chile. Once a month the flight stops in Rio Gallegos, Argentina.
Are the Falkland Islands not considered part of South America?
As long as the new flight is not LATAM as they have been ripping us off for years..
May 24th, 2018 - 10:22 am - Link - Report abuse +1The Falkland islands are not a part of South America never was and never will be. We happen to live in close proximity that is all. Argentina would like to think they have absolute sovereignty rights and they do not. We are British and wish to remain a part of the British system.
May 24th, 2018 - 10:40 am - Link - Report abuse +5The only reason today that Argentina is putting further pressure on us to let them share this second flight is because they want what we have . Not the land we live on but the wealth that surrounds us. They know that we are worth Hundreds of billions of Pounds in what we have . Oil and Fish and they will never stop putting pressure on us until either these products dry up or they get fed up with making their ilegal claim and we the Falkland islanders know that they will never do that.
Falkland Islanders were betrayed by Britain in the seventies giving the wrong impression that we would like better relations with these dictators. We do not and the result was an unnecessary conflict resulting in loss of life.
This new and second flight is not fully supported by all Islanders because unless Argentina drop their claim and recognise us as a people we will never trust them and any FCO officer would be wise to recognise the dangers they are leading us into once again by getting into bed with Argentina knowing that their ultimate end game is to steal our homeland.
Argentina needs to butt out and stop 'pretending' that they have sovereignty rights over the islanders.
May 24th, 2018 - 11:30 am - Link - Report abuse +1'I do not believe that permanent members of the Security Council are in violation of the relevant resolutions of the United Nations. The impression is that people who live under these conditions should be able to obtain a certain level of capabilities so that they can decide on their own future. And this is the main criterion of the principle organs of the United Nations. Achieve the independence or that have a certain government of their territories. I do not think that is a matter of abuse or violation of the relevant resolutions of the UN.'' (From Ban Ki-moon - ''kelpers should be able to decide on their future, La Nacion 11 Nov 2012, quoting Tiempo Argentino interview with Moon, New York).
Enough said.

teaberry- Never mind the economics and prices -the ONLY politically safe airlines and routes are Latam from Santiago or DAP from Punta Arenas.
May 24th, 2018 - 01:13 pm - Link - Report abuse +3Any route or airline from Brazil- or the charter airline from Uruguay will end up subject to a strong financial offer from Argentina to route-after a while - once a month
via Buenos Aires and then a while later - every week via Buenos Aires.
Never forget- despite the current overtures of more peace and sensible economic bilateral co-operation etc from Argentina- The Argentine OBJECTIVE is unchanged since before- and during 1982 and regardless of which Governemnt in power - to take over our homeland and our homes- full stop-end of.
So any future airlink that passes anywhere near Buenos Aires is susceptible to Argentine long term objectives.
Economically there is NO real case for 2 flights a week all year round without a big annual subsidy from FIG. Possibly a direct Latam Santiago-MPA-Santiago flight with a monthly stop over in Neuquen(under flight path anyway and covered by 1999 Agreement) would thus attract long haul passengers with direct international connections over a year or so and then move away from a subsidy.
DAP from Punta could perhaps operate with no or very little subsidy as they have a range of aircraft from 10-120 seats to fit the demand, thus freeing up the existing Latam flight for the long hail market.
Any other route will most likely bring the Arg Flag over Govt House within 10 years.
kelperabout- then you are an idiot. the islands are part of south america. the ignorance of some people in the islands is f*cking embarrassing. look at an atlas you idiot
May 24th, 2018 - 07:00 pm - Link - Report abuse -2Just because we are close to south America does not constitute that we are a part of it. That is only suggested by Argentina. Take a look around the world BrianFI and see how many other territories are near another continent but not a part of it.We are a British dependent territory not an Argentine one dope.
May 25th, 2018 - 04:01 pm - Link - Report abuse +2You mean like the UK not being part of Europe...?...;-)
May 25th, 2018 - 06:54 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Try Saint Helena , Tristan Decouna as examples they are much nearer South Africa than they are Great Britain but we don't hear Africa claiming them to be part of the African mainland. Some people are just so naive or biased when it comes to the Falkland Islands. We are British and no one has the right to tell us otherwise.
May 25th, 2018 - 09:02 pm - Link - Report abuse +2Or perhaps you could just try this...
May 25th, 2018 - 10:19 pm - Link - Report abuse -1https://www.countries-ofthe-world.com/countries-of-south-america.html
Relax, Kelperabout. Geography isn't destiny. No one says French Guiana isn't in South America, and that's officially part of France. The UK is in Europe but it wouldn't be unusual to talk about flights to Europe from the UK.
May 26th, 2018 - 01:39 pm - Link - Report abuse -1Yup... you would be surprised how many folk in the UK would point eastwards when asked where is Europe...
May 26th, 2018 - 06:17 pm - Link - Report abuse -2BTW...Mercopress take note of how drastically the amount of comments have fallen...
What has changed...?
Removing the popular comments section...
Does less popularity equate to the diminished likelihood of people advertising...?
One would need to check if less folk are visiting the site...
I read the articles once if they interest me, but I visit the site dozens of times to read the comments, if I have to trawl through four or five pages to see the comments...I lose interest and I visit less...
It may be that you don't need the revenue, because you are still sponsored...I don't know...
Maybe I should keep repeating my point until you get the message...
Google agrees: https://imgur.com/a/lFFoytE (see third entry).
May 26th, 2018 - 06:51 pm - Link - Report abuse -1And you'd do better to email MP if you can find an address that works. I'm sure whoever runs the site never reads the comments unless they are reported.
Seriously...did someone downtick my comment for giving Mercopress some sound advice...?
May 26th, 2018 - 10:37 pm - Link - Report abuse -1Weirdo...
I'm still confused by what you two are seeing. Nothing has changed for me. When I go to a story I can see the top three comments, under which are the words 'Read all Comments' leading to the full works.
May 26th, 2018 - 11:17 pm - Link - Report abuse +1I'm not seeing any changes.

Top 5 most commented stories, which recently disappeared from the site. It has also stopped emailing me when new comments are posted, which makes it even harder to keep up with. Has that happened to anyone else?
Ah, I see. I automatically go to the Falklands page, and not the current edition.
May 27th, 2018 - 11:44 am - Link - Report abuse 0It wouldn't have mattered what page you went to, the most commented was on every page on the right hand side...
May 27th, 2018 - 11:14 pm - Link - Report abuse 0I have no idea why you never saw it...
On my cell phone it was at the bottom of the page instead of the right...
Yes, I just checked on the internet archive and it's there on the Falklands page. It was the same for me; on the right in the browser and at the bottom on my phone.
May 27th, 2018 - 11:16 pm - Link - Report abuse 0On American TV there is a program called Airport Security and they show the rules regarding customs laws existing in Canada, Australia and USA, those who don't respect it do not enter, leave the passenger transgressor waiting for the next flight.
May 28th, 2018 - 12:46 pm - Link - Report abuse 0It would be a good idea to apply.
Oh well .... as I was never aware that it was a problem, it still isn't one. When I get to the UK I'll see if anything changes.
May 28th, 2018 - 10:54 pm - Link - Report abuse 0kelperabout looooooooool hahaha looool. the islands are in s america because we are close to them. did i say the islands are argie? no. people like you make me embarrassed to be a islander some days. get an education

May 30th, 2018 - 02:16 am - Link - Report abuse 0I'm all in favor of the FI but what puzzles me is that they think they are not part of South America. Yes, you are geographically part of South America.
