Ireland has voted by a landslide margin to change the constitution so that abortion can be legalized, according to an exit poll conducted for The Irish Times by Ipsos/MRBI. Read full article

    Is this the beginning of the end of the Catholic hold on the Irish...?
    It's good news if it is...no country should be dominated and controlled by religion...

    No. Truly I think this is really the end. The sex abuse scandals were the beginning of the end.

    Soon Ireland will have more liberal abortion laws than NI, will women start travelling into Ireland for an abortion instead of out of it?

    And I imagine the loss of power of the Catholic church makes a united Ireland much more likely. Not sure how I feel about that.

    Voice - you are a tiny bit out of date! The overwhelming success of this “landslide victory” clearly shows that the “Catholic hold on the Irish” ceased to exist some years ago.
