In an astonishing interview, the U.S. President, Donald Trump, praised Boris Johnson and said that PM Theresa May ignored his advice on Brexit negotiations. The President also suggested that the former foreign secretary would make a great prime minister due his 'hard line' Brexit plan. Read full article

Jul 13th, 2018 - 08:53 am - Link - Report abuse +1Thank goodness May ignored him. Waste of time making a trade deal with the US when they'll just tear it up whenever they want; look what's happening to Canada with NAFTA.
As for the deal we voted on, we weren't given one; there were as many different plans as Brexit campaigners. (That was one of the biggest problems of the referendum.) Boris himself promised we could stay in the single market, which is the very definition of a soft Brexit, but they all deny it now. I'd say the biggest deal breaker for most people is free movement and May's plan does end that.
Goes to prove that besides any scandal-ridden duck; any other Tom, Dick or Harriette can be a president of the USA and the citizens are totally powerless - in a supposed democracy - to kick him/her out of the Whitehouse when they prove to be incompetent and totally unfit to be a dignified president.
Jul 13th, 2018 - 03:08 pm - Link - Report abuse 0Yeah well, at least he can get the boot unlike the EU where the Commissioners are appointed, not elected and cannot be voted out of office by ordinary electors.

Jul 13th, 2018 - 03:37 pm - Link - Report abuse 0But isn't the US rather similar? The President is chosen by the electoral college and then he picks the people who run the government, like Secretary of the Treasury and Attorney General. They are not voted in by the people.
In the EU the President of the Commission is chosen by the European Parliament, and then they pick the commissioners from people nominated by the member states. And in both cases the parliament/congress has to vote on new legislation etc.
And the President can never be voted out of office by ordinary electors, only impeached by Congress. If the people aren't happy with him they just have to wait for his term to end.
Whatever he is Trump is not incompetent. He promised to get the US out of NATO and that is what he is doing. And there is nothing in the Constitution specifying that the President of the United States needs to be dignified. Indeed the the US has had a number of less than dignified presidents. Andrew Jackson, LBJ and Richard Nixon to name just three.

Kiss of death indeed as he later bestowed superfluous praise on on your namesake - Teresa May.

The question is why is this piece appearing in Mercopenguin, a British government propaganda organ supposedly devoted to America, South America and the South Atlantic?

Small minorities in the core European members of NATO were willing to fight for their country under any circumstances. Which is true of most people, why would anyone permit their government cart-blanche, to engage in war under any circumstance they chose?
The same publication gave this summary of Trump. American fascism: Reading the signs of the times: At what point are democracies truly in danger? What was unimaginable only a few years ago – a US president insulting democratic allies and praising dictators, or calling the free press “enemies of the people,” or locking up refugees and taking away their children – has become almost normal now. When will it be too late to sound the alarm? http://www.atimes.com/american-fascism-reading-the-signs-of-the-times/
Trump is the epitome of the Know Nothing movement. It was primarily anti-Catholic, xenophobic, and hostile to immigration, starting originally as a secret society. The movement briefly emerged as a major political party in the form of the American Party. Adherents to the movement were to reply I know nothing when asked about its specifics by outsiders, thus providing the group with its common name
Canada: Shame.

Jul 14th, 2018 - 03:42 pm - Link - Report abuse 030%. I think it partly depends on people mean by “fight for country”. and Fight For Their Country UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE
In 1965, a majority of Americans supported U.S. policies in Vietnam; by the fall of 1967, ONLY 35 PERCENT DID SO. For the first time, more people thought U.S. intervention in Vietnam had been a mistake than did not.”
So Canadians are less aggressive than the US. Any informed person knows that given US direct aggression in Latin America versus Canadian involvement in UN Peace keeping.

Not really if you knew your history, Check out the War of 1812.
The US was defeated at the Battle of Queenston Heights(Upper Canada) and a attempt to capture Montreal was repulsed in November 1813. (Lower Canada)
while the British blockaded the Atlantic coast of the United States and mounted large raids in the later stages of the war. …In September 1814, the British won the Battle of Hampden, allowing them to occupy eastern Maine, and the British victory at the Battle of Bladensburg in August 1814 allowed them to capture and burn Washington, D.C.. ”
You tread lightly, Canadians are the only nationality that goes to bat for you. Take a look around, there isn't any other nation that I know of that does that. But they certainly wouldn't put up with your BS, and would for sure knock you on your ass.
