The opening ceremony of the Olympic Youth Games is scheduled for this Saturday, October 6, at the traditional Obelisk, while actual competition is scheduled to commence on Sunday with 22 sporting events. Read full article

The opening ceremony was very good indeed. I liked the representations of the different sports with people running, cycling, rowing, diving, pole-vaulting etc. up and down the obelisco. It was also refreshing the way all the athletes came in a mixed group rather than the formal marches behind flags. It was also the first time in history that the opening ceremony was held in a city centre rather than a stadium.
