A delegation from the Falklands attended the UK Overseas Territories Joint Ministerial Council this week. This is the 20th meeting of the Leaders and Representatives from the UK Overseas Territories and Ministers of Her Majesty’s Government.
The busy week included an Environment Workshop, organized by the UK Overseas Territories Association (UKOTA), the UKOTA Political Council meeting, two days of JMC meetings, dinner for the Leaders - hosted by the Minister for the Overseas Territories, Lord Ahmad - the annual Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace, where the leaders of the delegations where introduced to Her Majesty the Queen, HRH the Prince of Wales and HRH the Duke of Cambridge.
The official proceedings ended with a reception hosted by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Canapés made from kingclip from the Falkland Islands and generously provided by Fortuna Ltd, were served.
The week included a ‘post Brexit’ trade dinner, hosted by the Government of Gibraltar and a dinner hosted by the Cayman Islands Government.
During the course of the week, MLA Teslyn Barkman also had meetings with a number of Members of Parliament and appeared in front of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee in relation to their inquiry into the OTs. (PN)
