
The Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly marked Commonwealth Day 2026 on Monday with a public statement highlighting the Territory’s links to the wider Commonwealth network and the role of local democratic institutions. In the release issued on March 9, the Assembly said the Commonwealth flag was flown alongside the Falklands flag on Victory Green, reflecting “our pride in being part of the Commonwealth family of nations.”

Both hosts and participants underlined the success of the recent Join Ministerial Council 2925 held in London and which brings together UK ministers and officials with Overseas Territories’ representatives.

The Falkland Islands Government Office (FIGO) in London will debut a short film showcasing the creation of the territory’s new banknotes. The screening will take place on Wednesday, 13 August, at the Historic Dockyard Museum, coinciding with the official launch of the new currency series.

The Falkland Islands Government hosted its Annual Parliamentary Reception on 10 June at the House of Commons, spotlighting the territory’s growing role as a globally significant hub for environmental research and biodiversity.

Falklands Government London Office Representative, Richard Hyslop also underlined the significance and merits of UK Overseas Territories Day in a brief speech.

The Falkland Islands Government Representative to the UK and Europe, Richard Hyslop, took part in a solemn rededication ceremony at the Cunard War Memorial on Sunday, May 25, marking the 43rd anniversary of the sinking of the Atlantic Conveyor during the Falklands War.

UK’s recently appointed ambassador to Argentina, David Cairns visited the Falkland Islands Government Office in London where he met with Representative Richard Hyslop and other staff from FIGO.

Amid concerns that the Darwin Plus funding for Overseas Territories could be cut, Falkland Islands lawmaker MLA Leona Roberts, underlined that key environmental funding is “always on the agenda of the Falklands”.

The Welsh Guards have marked their 110th anniversary, proudly upholding their regimental motto Cymru am Byth - Wales Forever. Founded in 1915, the Welsh Guards have since become the country's senior infantry regiment, serving with distinction across the world.

Premier of the Virgin Islands, Honorable Dr. Natalio Wheatley, has been elected President of the UK Overseas Territories Association (UKOTA) and will also serve as President of the Political Council.
