    Whales watching and tracking with high resolution satellite imagery

    Scientists have used detailed high-resolution satellite images provided by Maxar Technologies’ DigitalGlobe, to detect, count and describe four different species of whales. Reported this week in the journal Marine Mammal Science, this study is a big step towards developing a cost-effective method to study whales in remote and inaccessible places, that will help scientists to monitor population changes and understand their behavior.

    Name of remains at the Falklands' Argentine military cemetery 106th grave released

    A 19-year-old conscript soldier, and builder in his home province of Cordoba, Ramon Angel Cabrera, is the name of the 106th Argentine combatant whose remains buried in the Falkland Islands has been identified.

    Belisario Betancur who served from 1982 to 1986, one of Colombia's bloodiest periods sought a negotiated peace accord with FARC, ELN and M-19 rebels

    Former Colombian President Belisario Betancur, who attempted to broker peace with Marxist rebels during his administration, died on Friday at the age of 95, the Fundacion Santa Fe de Bogota hospital said.The hospital did not provide a cause of death, but media reports said he had been admitted with kidney problems.

    Christian Democrats choose a successor for Merkel: Annegret K-K

    Ms Kramp-Karrenbauer has sometimes been dubbed mini-Merkel or Merkel 2.0, neither nickname she particularly enjoys.

    Germany's ruling Christian Democrat Union has chosen Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer as its new party leader, ending Angela Merkel's 18-year reign. The CDU general secretary narrowly beat Friedrich Merz, a millionaire lawyer, in a run-off vote in Hamburg. Ms Kramp-Karrenbauer, or AKK as she is also known, received 517 of 999 votes.
