Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro on Tuesday signed a decree that will temporarily make it easier for Brazilians to buy guns, despite fears the move could aggravate already staggering violent crime. Read full article
This is yet another typical stunt, a strategy, a political capital for keeping the ignorant masses to go on clapping for delivering an electoral [so called] promise [to make the uneducated believe - blindly - in the trustworthiness of the president].
The BIGGEST joke is that those who clap, dance and burst crackers on account of this decree; most probably will never buy arms and to make it even funnier, they may not even be within the least financial conditions [may barely afford] to buy of the arms which are more expensive than the kitchen knives.
Isn't this a Clear Example of: The population gets the government which they deserve?
Also, is the new Crusader going to make sure the weapons purchasers are the 'good guys.' Of course not.
More weapons in homes encourages more break-and-enters and the stolen weapons go to the black market.
The more weapons are around, the more shootings will be.
I don't agree with Skull's last line though. Brazilians do not deserve what's going to happen to them. They were stolen their favourite candidate, they were lied to death, manipulated by the media and sold lies galore through the social media, and just like the Argentines three years ago, were sold a 'dream' that pretty soon become their worst nightmare.
REF: Brazilians do not deserve what's going to happen to them:
You ARE right - nobody does.
However, considering their apathy - contrary to active interest - towards trying to find or understand The Reality + demanding the fulfilment of Their Rights; clearly indicates a certain amount of mass-masochism - a non-assertive acceptance of their own suffering, the lack uniting against injustice, the lack of United Fighting Spirit. Hence, this a Clear Example of: “The population gets the government which they deserve”
Go to YouTube and watch the gunfight battles in the favelas and tell me that there's not a good reason for victims to have the right to defend themselves.
Those AK47s you see in the video used by the criminals were illegally obtained.
The right, perhaps; but how many people have the ability to defend themselves from criminal gangs with AK47s? Even the army have been unable to stop them so far.
I'd say the same as @DT while adding that in reality the govt or the politicians or the political parties are hand-in-glove with the Cartels. THAT's the reason for their constant growth. They are the ones who support the corrupts [parasites] in many different ways [funding campaigns, money laundering, getting rid of the undesirables- to name a few - in partnership with the churches]. How else do you think that the fight against Arms + Drugs + Counterfeit Money + Slaves Trafficking is a Lost-Cause the worldwide - including in the 1st World Countries [these being the largest dealers]. Just to give you ONE example: DT is so keen on building a wall to protect the USA while turning a blind-eye and a deaf-ear to the Narco-Tunnels! SURPRISED?
You may find him detestable, but Trump has proven that he is a disruptor who changes the framework. The wall disagreement suckered Democrats and the media into a trap that will enable an eventual victory because playing Russian roulette with a certifiable madman does not always workout for those making a strategic political stand.
Meanwhile he's cunning playing his voter base, insisting of border wall security and the shutdown sucks much of the oxygen out of the news cycle. No time for Democrats plotting impeachment, or 2020 election cycle antics. They instead look like traitors by preferring illegals over citizens. I don’t even think he wants the shutdown to end soon. DT wrote The Art of the Deal and he's using the same tactics.
(Reuters) - Accused Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman once paid a $100 million bribe to former Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto, a former associate testified on Tuesday that he previously told U.S. authorities.
I just don't think Trump or Bolsonaro are involved in the drug trade.
@Chicureo
The BBC had an article today on possible ends to the shutdown. They reckon a deal is most likely, and Trump declaring a bogus national emergency over the Repubs' objections is more likely than the Democrats caving at this point:
But if it stops the Dems plotting impeachment, that's a good thing. The Republican-controlled senate would never pass it, and it's much better for them to wait until Mueller finishes his investigation and see how significant the wrong-doing is before deciding what to do.
Besides, you seem to have forgotten the Democrats have a base too. Far from seeing them as traitors, their own supporters are cheering them for stopping the 'certifiable madman' in the White House. They want the Dems to stand firm, because they know if they give in then Trump will simply use the same threat to do whatever he wants.
Trump is unpredictable and a madman. Pelosi just tried to cancel his State of the Union speech before Congress. His counterpunch:
President Trump on Thursday abruptly denied military aircraft to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for a foreign trip just MINUTES BEFORE the congressional delegation was set to depart, in a stunning response to her call to delay the State of the Union address amid the government shutdown.
(Trump wrote this while the Congressional delegation were on a bus in route to the airport.). ”Obviously, if you would like to make your journey by flying commercial, that would certainly be your prerogative.”
Yes, he knows it's going to p*ss off a lot of people, but he's always unpredictable...
Whether you like her or not, your PM is gracious, diplomatic and respectful to those she disagrees with, such as Corbyn or Tusk. She also seems to be fairly predictable. So far, she's stuck in a fractious impasse with few apparent options.
Trump doesn't care about niceties...
His Nationalist PRIORITIES are to make America First much to the dismay of Macron and Merkel.
Not caring about niceties != unpredictable madman. Kim Jong-un and Chavez are examples of the latter. Very nationalistic, both loved discomfiting other leaders. Both disastrous for their countries.
May's problem is not that she is diplomatic, but that she is indecisive. She tried to chart a course between the extremes of hard Brexiters and Remainers, and ended up with a deal that satisfied neither.
But aren't you half British yourself? You should know better than to think that politeness means an unwillingness to fight.
REF: I just don't think Trump or Bolsonaro are involved in the drug trade:
They need not be!
They just need funds [laundered of course] in billions, from all kinds of Cartels, to finance their campaigns; to return the favor on getting elected - democratically elected. Why else do you think that The War against drugs is a lost war - worldwide? Do you think that they [or for that matter, any politician] are patriotic? Do you think that they yearn to fight for the betterment of their countries? Think again!
As already mentioned:
Afterall, they are all in place definitely not because they are patriots but because of their addiction to Power+Money + Key which opens many doors [& many safes] benefits, privileges & immunities - generously offered by the population - which permit them to steal the public funds till their heart's content. So wake up!
A good government is the only one which when in power, increases your opportunities of leading a better Quality of Life [get-rich-quick]. If they are corrupt - thoroughly corrupt - so be it! Shedding crock-tears for the suffering masses is a sheer waste of time. PERIOD!
Although I disagree its that bad, you do have a valid point.
DemonTree
Kim Jong-un and Chavez are examples of the latter. Very nationalistic, both loved discomfiting other leaders. Both disastrous for their countries.
Yes, and both successful in their despotic objectives despite impoverishing their populations... Jong-un obviously the worse.
Trump has just about the same popularity rating as May, but well above Merkel and Macron. His record low unemployment statistics, a strong 3.4% economic growth and enthusiastic satisfied voter base stands him apart.
If he destroys Pelosi's strategy, despite what everyone thinks, he'll possibly win the 2020 election.
If you see impartially - without any preconditioned mind-set - you'll be amazed to see the Naked Raw Truth about the so called [& highly respectable] perverted political system called democracy; as mentioned above.
@Chicureo
Yes, very successful at their despotic objectives despite impoverishing their populations. And you wonder why people think this is a bad thing?!
Your obsession with popularity is baffling to me. Don't you have your own opinion on who is a good and bad leader?
As for Trump, if he keeps the shutdown going too long, it will begin to impact that growth rate, and the voters will grow more and more dissatisfied. Unless they get a good deal, the Democrats have no reason to back down.
I admire a lot of great leaders, such as Winston Churchill, FDR, Mustafa Kemal of Turkey, Lee Kuan Yew of Singapore,Teddy Roosevelt, Simon Bolivar, José Miguel Carrera and Lord Thomas Cochrane all deserve my admiration.
All took dangerous and unpopular tactual gambits to achieve their goals. Many vs Trump is like a bad Japanese King Kong vs Godzilla movie.
The shutdown is highly overblown and the USA economy is still booming.
I don't particularly like Hillary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi, so I am obviously biased.
REF: Don't you have your own opinion on who is a good and bad leader?
Always, some will call a leader a bad or a useless leader, while the others may call the SAME, a great leader.
So, under a leadership, if one is able to make money [more; at a faster rate] ; that's a Good Leadership & if one gets suffocated by debts, that's the Bad Leadership! One just has to exploit the opportunities offered by the a government. If one can; that's a good government and if one can't, that's not such a good government. The Ever-Present Corruption; has nothing to do with one's financial health. Let those in power, steal; caring about it gets one NOWHERE!
@Chicureo
I'd never heard of Carrera, you prefer him to O'Higgins?
But all those leaders are pretty widely admired. Is there anyone you don't share the majority view on?
Trump is like a bad movie. Thatcher didn't act like a bull in a china shop, and Galtieri etc underestimated her. But real resolve has nothing to do with bluster.
As for US leaders, I'm liking Pelosi more and more. :) If I were her I wouldn't back down until I got something substantial in return, and it would have to be delivered in advance because Trump can't be trusted to keep his word.
@ :o))
I don't agree, money is important but not the only thing, and I want a government that benefits the whole country, not just me.
Ah. The criminal gangs frequently infiltrate the police, but they want to give the police power to kill anyone with no oversight? Don't Brazilians see the problem with this?
REF: I want a government that benefits the whole country
That's a noteworthy & a noble intention and I respect the same. But contrary to our desires, a reality doesn't fit into the actuality + wishful thinking never had any room next to the Harsh Naked Truth.
REF: Don't Brazilians see the problem with this?
I heard that the Brazilians see a problem, only when they are overrun by it [or after it kicks them on their butts]. Yet another Harsh Naked Truth?
Too many people will only vote for a government that benefits them. Or failing that, one that will hurt other people. Does gloating over other people's suffering makes them feel better about their miserable lives?
REF: Too many people will only vote for a government that benefits them:
Generally speaking, this always is the case. The BIG problem is, the Trust+Speculations+Hopes before the elections; which are mostly imaginary and far - too far - from the reality.
