Arson attacks, rioting, looting on Tuesday has extended to several Bolivian cities to protest the results of the country's presidential election process on Sunday, particularly since an oddly delayed official quick count showed President Evo Morales near an outright first-round victory — even as a more formal tally tended to show him heading for a risky runoff. There's a lot of misinformation about what's going on in Bolivia right now. The best thing is obviously a full recount of the ballots to avoid further violence.

That recount I understand will begin before the end of this week.

It has become sickening to sift through all the different versions regarding destabilization activities in the region. Whether from left or right (or both at the same time) let's not forget that there is real people in between who is suffering the consequences (Anyone that has gone through 2001 will understand).

    Peace.

    TWIMC...
The OAS has..., almost immediately...,accepted the current Bolivian administration to fully participate on a vote recount...:

The OAS general assembly is..., as I type..., debating how to implement the recount ASAP...

    Peace...

”today's Bolivia official electoral info from Sundays election gives still a second electoral round (ballotage) in december as a result...
    Where is your problem...?”

Firstly the count is not finished yet, and Morales is close to winning outright. Secondly, the situation raises suspicions of electoral fraud. If it was Macri who suddenly got a large and unexplained jump in votes after a pause in releasing the results, you would be the first to complain and ask for a recount.

Lots of Bolivians have a problem with it, or do you believe the protests were organised by the same 'external forces' currently at work in Chile?

This is Morales' own fault, he should have listened to the result of the referendum he held and stepped down after 3 terms. There must be successors in his own party to provide fresh blood.

    Mr DemonTree...

Firstly..., I know the count is not finished yet..., that's why I wrote “still”..., capisce...?
Anyhow..., today's (24/10/2019) Bolivia official electoral info from Sundays election gives ***“STILL”*** a second electoral round (ballotage) in december as a result...
    https://computo.oep.org.bo/
    Where is your problem...?

Secondly, almost any electoral situation in Latin-America where any Popular Movements wins..., raises almost automatically “suspicions” of electoral fraud...
Even if they have won three previous clean elections by ample margin and have produced amazingly positive social and economic results in their countries...
However...,that is how the cookie crumbles and we..., the Thinking People of down here have pragmatically accepted that situation...
That's why Evo has immediately invited the OAS and the EU to participate in a recount...
Do you have any problem with that...?

And now the difference has gone over 10% again. Don't be disingenuous, Think.

By popular movements, I assume you mean popular with YOU. But you're wrong; Bolivia's last election, in 2014, was not attended by protests, riots, or alarming (alarmist?) statements by the OAS. Below is the BBC article about it, containing no accusations of fraud, but a lot of claims from Mr Morales that he would not seek a 4th term, had no intention of changing the constitution, and he said “I understand this Latin American way of thinking that everything is always about a single person, but I don't like it.” What a pity he didn't stick to his promises.

    Double standards anyone...?

Why don't you inform yourself independently what Evo Morales has signified for a previously social catastrophe zone as Bolivia was..., and then come bback with your dogmatic “Personalism is bad..., baaaad..., baaaaaaaad” aversion...

By the way... where would Europe (including the soon to be Extra European UK...) be if you allowed your political systems to be “Couped” anytime any of your politicians didn't stick to their promises..., huhhhhhh...

Good thing you Brits have Lizzy... Remind me... How long has She reigned....?

I happen to think Morales has done a good job, and if I was Bolivian I'd probably have voted for him in 2014. But I would also have voted against removing term limits in the referendum, as did a majority of Bolivians, and I still strongly believe he should not have sought a fourth term.

We've seen too often what happens when a leader continues to hang on to power, and it's not pretty. Cristina did not try to stay in office after her two terms, whether due to principle or pragmatism, and although Macri's term has been painful, I think changing the constitution would have been worse for Argentina in the long run.
