On Sunday 33.8 million Argentines will vote for a president, for the renewal of the 130 members of the Lower House and a third of the Senate, 24 out of 72. But results should come as no surprise since a majority of the Argentine electorate has zapped to an old déjà vu show, fed up with president Mauricio Macri and his pro-business policies. “a majority of the Argentine electorate...fed up with president Mauricio Macri and his pro-business policies.”

As Mauricio Macri approaches his final downfall, the use of the term business-friendly beside his name strongly smells of willful disinformation.

Macri's unpopularity is rather due to his inability to support business in Argentina. Only a few large corporations -- mostly in the financial sector -- benefited, along with some large landowners and agribusiness and a handful of business linked to Macri family members and associates. Besides that, a carnage of domestic sector small and medium businesses has ravaged the country, making Macri's pro-business qualification a clear misnomer.

Devaluations combined with high inflation, sky-rocketing foreign debt -- with the private sector and with the IMF -- huge public services tariffs increases have hurt not only citizens but businesses and non-profit organizations -- paralyzing the domestic economy and cutting off the chain of payments.

That is why Macri is not, contrary to most presidents, getting a second chance. He has alienated most sectors in the country including the productive business community, who see the Fernandez-Fernandez ticket platform as a much more viable option for the coming four years.

    Good riddance on Sunday, Macri.

    Argentina: The electors have spoken.
Preliminary numbers as of Sunday, Oct. 27:
    Fernández-Kirchner: 47 per cent.
    Macri-Pichetto: 41 per cent.
Polling stations still remain to be counted.
Alberto Fernández has been elected president of Argentina and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner is the new vice-president -- there will be no runoff as the ticket has gotten over 45 of the ballots.
Contrary to tradition, the electors have denied Macri a second term.
Axel Kicilloff is Buenos Aires province's new governor, defeating 52 to 38 per cent incumbent Maria Eugenia Vidal.
Macrist incumbent Horacio Rodríquez Larreta keeps Buenos Aires city with 52 per cent of the ballots, defeating Kirchnerist candidate Martín Lammens with 38 per cent.
    Adiós, Macri.

Finally, a new hope dawns in Argentina.
