Argentine President Mauricio Macri conceded defeat in Sunday's presidential election, congratulating rival Alberto Fernandez on winning the election. Read full article
I always enjoy reading all the headlines on the Internet and then coming to see the spin MercoPress gives the same title. Never disappointing, plus always enjoyable to see what they are looking to achieve through it.

The spin MercoPress gives the same title. If what you claim is true you would have been able to be specific. I'll just put it down to your upbringing.

I expect Argentina will become another Venezuela in very short order. The problem is if Argentina defaults again no-one will lend them money. A vicious circle.
If it were not dramatic because of the implications of having irresponsible people ruling the country, we would have to accept the words of M. E. Vidal as those that best fit the facts. Mauricio Macri won his presidency with 34.15% of the votes (in the first round) in 2015. Four years later, in the middle of a necessary, inevitable and painful adjustment plan (that has led to a deficit reduction from 7% to 1.5 %) Macri got 41% of the votes in the first round. Some speak of resounding failure. Others, that he won't never come back ..... believing that the story is over. I think Alberto Fernandez is going to need Mauricio Macri a lot, if he has a little intelligence. He won't need the support of Maduro nor Evo Morales but Bolsonaro, Trump, Macron......
1. The most important is, no doubt, the intelligent, unselfishness, forward-looking gesture of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, who ceded the candidacy that would've been hers to smart negotiator Alberto Fernández, who had previously criticized her handling of government. The move created wide consensus among Peronist sectors that had been distanced with Kirchnerism, allowing not only an election victory but the ability to govern once in power.
2. Macri will have managed to stay just one term in office, in spite of a tradition to grant a second term to most presidents. Giving credit where it's due, in my opinion this is Macri's own misgivings
3. While he strongly criticized Macri during campaign, Alberto Fernández promptly responded to an invitation, and both met early this morning to prepare an orderly transition.
4. Having failed in his attempts to obliterate Peronism and the unions, president Mauricio Macri was gracious in defeat and so has been Fernandez, who pointed out that the job of reconstructing Argentina requires collaboration from all Argentines.
4. The defeated president appears to have managed to keep a significant base, allowing Macrists to play a strong role as opposition--as it should be in any democratic system.
5. Alberto appears to be an insightful man, a born consensus-seeker with deep knowledge and strong principles. He and Cristina may produce the alchemy required to take Argentina a big step ahead.
A very positive sign. The current president sitting down with the next president. This is what I read. It is a good start (despite Cristina and the unfortunate silly words of Kicilloff last night).
