Falkland Islands' catches for calamari squid and hake have risen substantially over five years. Statistics were outlined at Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

MLA Teslyn Barkman said the five-year catch history for calamari in thousands of metric tons and starting with 2019 were 80.6, 80, 64.7, 46.4 and 30.3 respectively.

The five-year catch history for hake in thousands of metric tons and starting with 2019 were 52.8, 27.1, 15.8, 23.9 and 21.1 respectively.

The estimated value for calamari for 2019 is £190 million and for the other four years £191, £163, £ 160 and £110 million respectively.

The estimated value for Hake in 2019 is £38 million and for the other four years £19, £12, £15.5 and £14 million respectively. (PN)
