Makes sense. To get to Tierra del Fuego, Argentines have to cross to Chilean territory, then take a Chilean ferry to cross the Strait, then continue through Chilean territory until finding the border dividing the island. Let Chile be happy with the possession of the entire Strait and let us take our business to Rio Grande and Ushuaia.
You all have a bee in your bonnet about sovereignty. But why from Puerto San Julian? That's a long ferry ride. Why not go from Rio Gallegos? It's about half the distance.
Good question. I don't know, but it could be related to accessibility to San Julian from the north, or the viability of each location to build a ferry port.
