    Italy bans travelers arriving from Brazil, Chile and Peru

    “Throughout the world, the pandemic has entered a more acute phase,” said Health Minister Roberto Speranza.

    Italy on Thursday banned travelers from Brazil and 12 other countries it considers to pose a high risk of Covid-19 transmission. The full list comprises Armenia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bosnia, Brazil, Chile, the Dominican Republic, Kuwait, North Macedonia, Moldova, Oman, Panama and Peru.

    Illegal trade of ivory shrinks but pangolin scales trafficking soars, UN report

    The illegal global trade in ivory has shrunk while the trafficking of pangolins has soared, a UN report on wildlife crime based on four years' data said on Friday. National bans on selling ivory, particularly China's in 2017, appear to have helped further erode ivory trafficking after it peaked around 2011-2013, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) said in its World Wildlife Crime Report, which was last published in 2016.

    US welcomes WHO probe into the origins of coronavirus in China

    Earlier on Friday, an epidemiologist and an animal health specialist from WHO left for China to try and identify the animal source of the new coronavirus pandemic.

    The United States welcomes the World Health Organization's W(HO) probe into the origins of the novel coronavirus in China, its ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva said on Friday.
